Selection for ISTCiM

2026

We plan to organise the in-person team (and perhaps the second online team) from Warwick at this year's ISTCiM competition, 6-8 November, which is open to undergraduates and also to post-graduate students up to the third year.

There will be a written selection exam, 14:00-17:00 on 21 October (Wen) in Room D1.07 in Zeeman. All eligible students at Warwick are welcome to take the exam (just turn up, no registration is required). If there are unavoidable clashes that prevent you from taking the exam, then please email Ittihad <Ahmed-Ittihad.Hasib@warwick.ac.uk> by 19 October, and we'll see if taking the test later on the same day may be an option.

Warwick's Department of Mathematics kindly agreed to sponsor the selected team. We do not know yet if we'll be able to do other maths competitions later in this academic year; we'll be posting updates on this webpage (https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/maths/research/events/seminars/areas/imc/)

2025

We consider the possibility of organising a team from Warwick at this year's ISTCiM competition (7-9 November 2025, online or in person) which is open to every student at any stage of the studies (undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate studies up to the third year). The department has kindly agreed to cover the travel expenses of the team.

A written selection exam (where no calculators, internet nor any notes are allowed) took place 3-6pm on 22 October 2025; here are the problems and sample solutions.

Other maths competitions open to university students

We do not organise any team for these competitions and you should make equiries/apply on your own in order to take part.

Imperial-Cambridge Mathematics Competition: If you'd like to participate, please contact Warwick Maths Society: they have been organising Round 1 (which is on the second to last Sunday of November) at Warwick in the last couple of years.

International Youth Math Challenge: in Round 1, you have to submit solutions online on their webside. The deadline in 2025 is 30 November.

Logic and Mathematical Games: In the UK, they are organised by Coventry University. They are open from 7-year old to adults, including a special category for university students. There is no registration fee. A collection of past problems for practice can be found here.

Vojtech Jarnik Mathematical Competition: It is usually in April (in Czech Republic) and requies registration fee. Warwick does not currently offer any financial support for fees or travel to the competition.
