Warwick Doctors are different

students working

We believe Warwick Doctors are different.

Being a Warwick Doctor means more than simply graduating from Warwick...

Our students say Warwick Doctors are different thanks to the diversity of their peers. As well as welcoming students straight from science, arts and humanities degrees, every year we're joined by people from a wide range of professional careers, bringing a wealth of experience to lessons and discussions.

Our teaching staff think our doctors are different because of their thirst for knowledge, determination and resilience. Our programme is designed exclusively for graduates and, our accelerated learning, fits five years of study into four, ideal for those who are dedicated to starting their career in medicine now.

Healthcare professionals tell us our doctors are different because of their clinical reasoning and excellent communication skills, developed through case based learning and early patient contact from the very first term of their very first year.

We know our doctors are different due to the core values upheld across our medical school. We support our students to develop and nurture attributes including kindness, integrity, humility, innovation, creativity and a commitment to help others. Our community is dedicated to sustaining these values and supporting our students to become the very best doctor they can possibly be.

Why study Medicine at Warwick?

Largest graduate-entry course

We're home to the UK's largest graduate-entry course, meaning you'll be with plenty of like-minded people who have all been through the university experience before.

Lecture theatre

"We're all in the same boat and have all taken the decision to go back to university, despite the sacrifices that entails. We're here because we're passionate about becoming doctors, and that makes studying all the more enjoyable." - Chloe

Accelerated learning

Our accelerated course is a challenging but very rewarding programme, meaning that if you're prepared to work hard you can become a doctor in just four years, compared to the average five.

Students in seminar

"It’s very busy and I do feel challenged – but in a good way! There’s a good stepwise progression between each year of the course, ensuring you develop your academic knowledge, confidence and responsibilities." – Madhu

Early patient contact

Our students spend time in community settings meeting patients from the very first term. By the end of your first year, you'll have spent time on hospital wards and clinical placements where you can practise history taking and examination skills.

"The biggest thing that drew me to Warwick was the fact that we have some clinical exposure from the first year, which a lot of other courses don’t offer until further into the degree."

- Farhana

First-class anatomy and clinical skills training

We hold the most comprehensive collection of plastinated specimens in the UK. These specimens (from Von Hagens Plastination, Germany) provide an invaluable hands-on training experience for the doctors and surgeons of the future. Combine this with our newly opened Clinical Education Hub facilities and we're confident your anatomy training will be second to none.

"Our first year anatomy sessions were taught to an incredibly high standard." - Greg

Diverse intake

Entry into our programme is competitive. Your future classmates are likely to be exceptional individuals who will bring diverse personal backgrounds and life experience to enrich your time at WMS.

We're also one of only a few medical schools to accept students who have no background in science, meaning each year group benefits from a wide array of knowledge, skills and experience.

learning in classroom

"In my year alone I'm surrounded by people who gave up fantastic, well-established careers in everything from the finance industry or clinical research to music and teaching because they wanted to study medicine."

- James

Case based learning

Case based learning (CBL) is at the core of our curriculum and is integrated across all four years. Individually, and as part of a small group, you'll explore scenarios resembling real-world cases and linked to topics covered in lectures. We've found CBL supports our students to further develop their clinical reasoning, communication and problem solving skills, all while building their knowledge.

"My CBL group are amazing and every week we work through a new case together. I feel like I learn so much, as we direct our own learning and have time and space to ask questions and make mistakes in a safe, supportive environment."

- Amy
