By Dr Jeisson Cardenas Rubio, Research Fellow at the IER

"As a former PhD student and now Research Fellow at IER, I have had the chance to interact with colleagues who have different backgrounds, ideas and life experiences. Despite my first months in the IER as a Research Fellow being affected by the Covid-19 outbreak, the pandemic has not stopped my career experience at the Institute.

I have been involved in a wide range of relevant activities and conducted a variety of projects with national and international institutions.

The IER has given me the opportunity to apply my PhD research which focused on integrating job portals information (such as occupation and skills) to the Labour Market Information for All (LMI for All) project, which is funded by the UK Government.

My work also included the classification of vacancy data at 6-digit level SOC 2020 and the analysis of the UK labour demand for green occupations/skills.

Dr Jeisson Cardenas Rubio joined the IER in early 2020

What's more, I have been a committee panel expert to address the impact of Covid-19 in the Colombian labour market. IER is a place where proposals and ideas from individual contributors are valued and celebrated. Additionally, it is a place where diversity is welcome and it encourages you to progress in your career path."

Dr Jeisson Cárdenas-Rubio joined IER as a Research Fellow in January 2020, after recently completing his PhD at Warwick. His doctoral research investigated to what extent a web-based model of skill mismatches can be developed for countries where the information regarding the labour market is relatively scarce. Jeisson's current research interests focus on analysing Big Data sources and the development of labour market information for career guidance, skill shortages identification and labour market forecasting.
