New Policy Brief on Industry 5.0
The European Commission recently established a new unit to promote Industry 5.0.
IER Director, Chris Warhurst, along with his TNO colleague Prof. Steven Dhondt has just published a policy brief from the Beyond 4.0 research project that examines why Industry 5.0 is needed as an industrial strategy in Europe and how it can be made to happen.

IER's Dr Sally WrightLink opens in a new window recently attended a work package meeting in San Sebastian for the Horizon Europe BEYOND 4.0Link opens in a new window project on the impact of new technologies of the jobs, business models and welfare.
Led by Dr Michael Kohlgrüber from Technische Universität Dortmund, Sozialforschungsstelle Dortmund (TUDO) in Germany, the work package aims to progress the skills debate by providing new insights for better understanding of the skills needed for future workplaces. The meeting was hosted by Prof. Egoitz Pomares from Sinnergiak Social Innovation at the University of the Basque Country. Following on from the meeting, a working paper will be published on the project website later in the year
Making Industrie 4.0 work for all
Based on research from the Beyond 4.0 project examining the future of work and welfare, Chris Warhurst was invited to deliver a talk in September on ‘The challenges and opportunities in the digitalisation of production’.
The talk, co-presented with Steven Dhondt of the Dutch TNO, centred on making Industrie 4.0 work for all in an inclusive Europe. It was delivered to the Oesterreichische Nationalbank/European Money & Finance Forum event ‘25 years of EU Northern Enlargement’ held virtually in Vienna in September. The talk was based on a chapter in a report of the same name also published at the same time.

Chris Warhurst of IER and Steve Dhondt of the Dutch innovation organisation TNO have just published a Policy brief outlining the opportunities and challenges with Industrie 4.0 as part of the project.
