What we do
Our aims
- Warwick should be able to recruit and retain the best PGR students in the world;
- Warwick research students consistently say that the University meets (if not exceeds) their expectations;
- the Doctoral College is accessible and available when needed, and proactively intervening when appropriate; and
- the University recognises the strategic importance of research students to both education and research.
Scholarships and Funding
We manage the awarding of main university scholarship funding, and curate and update a list of PhD scholarship and funding opportunities that you can filter according to your faculty, fee status, and background region. In addition, we also provide funding information for current PGRs, such as on PhD mobility as well as student-led conferences.
Calendar and Events
We lead and contribute to organising community-building events and activities for PGRs.
Are you interested in meeting other postgraduate researchers, developing your skills sa a researcher, or learning more about the university during welcome week? The Doctoral College calendar can help you find events that matter to you.
Researcher Development
We support PGRs to develop their professional skills. Whether it is getting the tools to do the job, understanding concepts of research practice, getting yourself organised, keeping yourself and your life on track, or taking time to listen and understand other people's research, the Researcher Development Programme offers workshops and events by you, for you.
Supervision and Progression
We provide guidance and practical support to secure and maintain high-quality supervision and monitoring for our postgraduate researchers. Check out the relevant guidelines and also keep a look out for our events and workshops specifically for supervisors.
Networking
We fund and support a range of networking groups for postgraduate researchers, among them the Network for Ethnic Minority Postgrads and the Parent Juggle. For more information about founding a PGR network with the Doctoral College, please reach out to us.
Thesis Submission and Viva
The Doctoral College supports the research degree examination process and provides guidance to postgraduate researchers, supervisors, examiners, and departments. We've also compiled answers to frequently asked questions on the submission and viva process.
Quality Assurance
We regularly monitor the PGR experience through surveys and other means of evaluation, such as focus groups. Find out more about the results of the 2021 PRES survey, results from our regular internal surveys, focus groups, and EDI initiatives, and the Annual PGR Programme review.
Newsletter and X
As postgraduate researcher, you're automatically subscribed to our newsletter in which we share information about events, deadlines, and useful tips and tricks designed to support you during your PhD journey. For those who prefer daily information, we also have a X (Twitter) channel.
Postgraduate Research Subcommittee
We enact decisions made by the Postgraduate Research Subcommittee (formerly Board of Graduate Studies) which advises and makes recommendations to the Senate on all matters to do with PGRs in the university. There are four Working and Advisory Groups reporting to PRS:
- PGR EDI Working Group
- PGR Scholarships Working & Advisory Group (SWAG)
- PGR Supervision Working Group
- PGR Training Working Group
