Network for Ethnic Minority Postgrads
About
NEMP is a community of postgraduates from minority ethnic backgrounds at Warwick. We share our experiences and support each other. Each of us will have different experiences and perspectives. Together we can call upon these resources and help each other to progress. We strive to be intentional in our language and sensitive in our approach.
Our aims
It is easy for minority ethnic students to feel disconnected and underrepresented within their departments. Being able to discuss these feelings with one another may help us feel validated and understood. We want to bring together postgraduates and create a space for them to have these discussions, so they don't have to happen by chance. We do this by organising events including book clubs, board games, seminars and workshops. Each organiser in NEMP has an assortment of skills, experiences and knowledges they are willing to share.
A call for help
We are always looking for volunteers to help with organising events and also support collaborative projects. We hope to restart the Diversitea chat soon which is a drop-in hybrid session for general chat, support, exchange of experiences, ideas and a sounding board for brainstorming. If you are interested or have ideas for events please email us at NEMP@warwick.ac.uk.
In the past NEMP and its members have been involved in for example, running workshops for Warwick Medical School's students and staff on Identity, drafting the Decolonising the Social Sciences (https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/soc/decolonisingss/), and training PhD candidates from STEM faculties on the same.
