The dropdown box on the right allows you to see a different view of the calendar, such as an agenda or a termly view.

If this calendar has tags, you can use the labelled checkboxes at the top of the page to select just the tags you wish to view, and then click "Show selected". The calendar will be redisplayed with just the events related to these tags, making it easier to find what you're looking for.

Creating positive working relationships - Communication styles
This event has been organised by Researcher Development. For any enquiries please contact pgresearchskills@warwick.ac.uk.

Do you find yourself intimidated when someone asks a question and wants a quick response? Or find it frustrating that someone doesn’t answer your question immediately?

We all have different ways of working; ways that work naturally for us, and ways that we have learnt in order to fit into the group.

But what if we had a better idea of how our colleagues preferred to work, how they prefer to be spoken to, asked questions, or be motivated? What if we had a crib sheet to the different styles that people have of communicating?

The DISC style of Leadership Communication is just that; helping you think about your colleagues & team, how you work with individuals in your team, work with your team as a whole, and lead successfully.

This session is aimed at those who are working in a research group, leading their first team or wanting to focus on how their research colleagues, including supervisors, prefer to work.

We also have a sister session which looks more at how people have a preferred way of working. See “Why does that person prefer to work that way – Leadership and Teamwork” workshop. You can also find out more about team styles and leadership methods in our “Preparing for Leadership- Building teams and producing results” session.

How did they get that job? Profiles of successful researchers in academia
This event has been organised by Researcher Development. For any enquiries please contact pgresearchskills@warwick.ac.uk.

How did that person get that job? What have they done in their career that has helped them get that job or secured that position? Wouldn’t you love to read people’s CVs and life stories to know how they did it?

We can listen to colleagues talk about their academic careers, but here you get to read their profiles and work out what how they have built their career.

The group will be split along disciplinary lines and examine a researcher’s profile for the achievements, skills and professional practice. Once we have discussed and identified these we will examine our own experiences to develop our personal profile and looking to see what we can do to strengthen it or mark as our achievements.
