By accepting the Warwick Research Sanctuary Scholarship, award holders are agreeing to the Terms and Conditions below and are bound by the Funded PGR Student Policy. Scholars should read the Funded PGR Student Policy alongside the Terms and Conditions listed below.
1.1
The Warwick Research Sanctuary Scholarship is normally awarded for up to 4 years of full-time doctoral study and normally includes the payment of both academic fees and a maintenance grant to the award-holder. Funding is not retrospective.
1.2
The University’s decision over fee status will be final. By accepting the award, you are confirming that you accept your assigned fee status and are not aware of any evidence that might alter this classification. If you do not disclose such evidence and the University becomes aware of it at a later date, your Warwick Research Sanctuary Scholarship award may be revoked.
1.3
The award of the Warwick Research Sanctuary Scholarship is made only to individuals who hold one of the following statuses as granted by the UK government.
- Refugee Status
- Asylum seeker
- Definite Leave to Remain as a result of an asylum seeker application.
- Limited Leave to Remain as a result of an asylum seeker application.
- Humanitarian protection as a result of an asylum seeker application
- You were included as a dependant (spouse/child) on an application for asylum. Please note: Spouses/civil partners must have been the spouse/civil partner on the date on which the asylum application was made. Children/step-children must have been aged under 18 on the date on which the asylum application was made.
- UK Government visa concessions for Ukrainian nationals
By accepting the award you are confirming that you hold one of the statuses above and are not aware of any evidence that might alter this classification for the duration of your scholarship. You should disclose any such information regarding a change in status to the Doctoral College immediately, noting that your Warwick Research Sanctuary Scholarship award may be revoked or cease with immediate effect.
1.4
Payment of academic fees for the Warwick Research Sanctuary Scholarship will be based on fee status as determined by Postgraduate Admissions.
Payment of the maintenance grant is set at the standard UKRI rate which will be £16,062 p.a. for 2022-2023.
Payment of a Researcher Training Support Grant (RTSG) is set at £5,000.

Awards for Warwick Research Sanctuary Scholarship in 2022/23 are ordinarily expected to begin on 3 October 2022. The award of the Warwick Research Sanctuary Scholarship may be deferred up until 30 December 2022 with prior permissions from the Doctoral College and your department. Deferral up to 30 March 2023 will be allowed in exceptional circumstances with prior permission from the Chair of the Board of Graduate Studies and your department.

The Warwick Research Sanctuary Scholarship is subject to awardees retaining the right to study in the UK. Awardees who have been granted limited leave to remain such as refugee or discretionary leave, where it expires before the course end date, will be required to present evidence to prove an in-time application to extend visa has been submitted, or have obtained new immigration permission in order to continue your studies. Awardees will be required to inform the University whenever circumstances change which affect the right to study, for example, if bail conditions changes to include a ‘no study’ restriction, or, if all appeal rights have been exhausted and are required to leave the UK. Our Compliance team will be making periodic check with the Home Office UKVI to ascertain right to study for asylum seekers.
1.7
Accommodation fees are not directly covered by the Warwick Research Sanctuary Scholarship. The stipend is intended to be a contribution towards living expenses.
1.8
Warwick Research Sanctuary Scholarship award-holders are expected to be registered full-time and be based at the University throughout their course of study. Any requests to spend part of the period of study away from the University must conform with the conditions set out in the ‘Guidelines on the Supervision of Research Students based away from the University’.
1.9
The Warwick Research Sanctuary Scholarship award-holder is expected to participate periodically in a range of postgraduate recruitment and community focused activities, which might include postgraduate open days; induction events; focus groups; receptions held with potential sponsors or alumni, student talks etc.
