If the lift on the ground floor of the Library is out of order, we have two alternative accessible routes to the Library.
Access via the Chemistry building
Notes about this route: longer route, requires going over a bridge, crossing a road which has many maintenance and delivery vehicles, step and step-free access available.
You can access the first floor of the Library through the Chemistry Building across the road. The ground floor entrance is under the bridge, and the lift is on the left as you enter the building.
For step-free access:
1) Leave the ground floor of the Library and turn left. Go past the stairs, in the direction of the Ramphal building. Cross Library Road so that you are opposite the Ramphal Building.
2) Turn along the path in front of the Chemistry Building.
3) Enter the Chemistry building through the main entrance underneath the bridge.
4) The lifts are to your left as you enter. Take the lift to the First Floor.
5) Turn right and cross the bridge to enter the library.
Access via the Library Staff Entrance
Notes about this route: requires calling through to staff (phone provided), there may be a delay during busy periods.
You can access the Library through the ground floor entrance at the rear of the building.
1. Leave the ground floor of the Library and turn left. Go past the stairs, in the direction of the Ramphal building. Turn left past the Library Café.
2. Follow alongside the building and take the first left. Here there will be the accessible parking spaces.
3. The entrance is under the bridge where there are two glass doors. Use the yellow telephone to contact staff for access. You can just say, “I’m a student at the Yellow Door, please can I get access via the lift?”
4. Staff will then escort you to the first floor.
