Making better work and retirement transitions for older people from disadvantaged groups

This project is considering the future of work and retirement of disadvantaged workers, investigating responses to the public policy imperative to maintain productive engagement against a backdrop of population ageing and concerns about the effects this will supposedly have on the sustainability of social welfare systems.

The research consists of an international study of employment programmes and how they support sub-groups of older workers to remain economically engaged and plan their retirement. This will combine desk research with data collected from programmes directly.

As well as staff interviews, which will collect detailed information concerning programme purpose, design and implementation, where possible, older participants will be interviewed about their experiences.
