The AELP, AoC and Institute for Employment Research at Warwick University (IER) are undertaking research into the costs and content of functional skills. The study is being funded by the Edge Foundation and the Gatsby Foundation.

This study is focusing on the impact of the 2019 reforms which sort to make functional skills more appropriate to employer’s needs.

Based on interviews with providers, a literature review and data analysis, the project will explore whether the content of maths and English functional skills is being contextualised to the needs of the labour market, and whether funding is sufficient to deliver this.
