Classics and Ancient History

As a Classics student your skills include:

  • ability to understand what can and cannot be inferred from incomplete information, evaluating and interpreting resources
  • thorough research and attention to detail
  • ability to reach an informed decision and defend it both orally and in writing
  • understanding of languages and how they work (for some students)
  • logical thought processes
  • working independently and to deadlines

Options for classics students

Six months after graduation, Classics and Ancient History graduates were working in a wide range of jobs. Communication careers remained popular e.g. advertising, marketing, public relations and web development, Several graduates were working in financial fields including accountancy, auditing and private wealth management. One graduate was working for Ofcom, another for Amnesty International.

Some graduates were working in a temporary capacity - in administration, retail or as teaching assistants - to increase their level of experience or fund further study. Three graduates embarked on law conversion courses; others were studying for Master's in classics, history of art, English literature, theology, management, accounting, engineering and teacher training.
