Assignment - An activity used to submit files for marking. Can be integrated with Turnitin for plagiarism detection.

Attendance - An activity used to take attendance during sessions.

Blog - An activity where one or more people can contribute to creating content in a specific format.

Chat - An asynchronous chat tool activity that can be used for group work.

Checklist - An activity that allows a teacher to create a list, such as for tasks, for students to work through.

Choice - An activity that allows to ask module participants a single multiple-choice question. Can be used to allow participants to select a project or direction for the course, stimulate thinking about a topic or quickly test participants' understanding. Results may be published with associated participant names or anonymously.

Database - An activity which allows students and editors to input and store searchable data.

External Tool - An activity that links to an external source of learning resources and activities, such as a website.

Feedback - An activity that enables the creation of custom surveys to collect feedback. A variety of question types are available. Responses may be anonymous and can be shared with all participants. Do not use this activity for student module feedbackLink opens in a new window.

Forum - An asynchronous activity that can be used for moderated and unmoderated group discussion.

Glossary - A list of definitions that can be added to by student or editor.

 Group Choice - Allows students to select one or more groups they wish to be a member of in a course.

H5P - This activity enables the creation of a variety of interactive content for formative assessment. User interaction and scores can be tracked in the Moodle Gradeboook. H5P must not be used for exams or similar.

Lesson - An activity for creating flexible learning paths using a series of HTML pages and choices.

Questionnaire - An activity which allows you to gather data by surveying Moodle space participants.

Quiz - An online quiz activity that can automatically provide marks and feedback to participants.

Scheduler - This activity allows to schedule appointments with individual or several students. The outcome of the appointment can be recorded within the activity.

SCORM package - allows uploading of a standard package of interactive content.

Survey - An activity that can use COLLES and ATTLS survey instrumentsLink opens in a new window to assess and stimulate learning.

Wiki - A series of web pages that can be edited by participants and automatically links entries.

Workshop - An activity that allows uploading of assignments and facilitates peer and self-assessment.

Resources

Book - A multi-page resource with a book-like format that you can page through or navigate using a table of contents.

File - A resource where you can upload a file to your Moodle space.

Folder - A resource which can display multiple files of the same or different formats.

IMS content package - allows uploading of a standard package of (predominantly static) content.

Label - A versatile 'spacer' that can be used with images, text and multimedia within sections.

Lightbox Gallery - This resources can host a collection of images. If enabled, users can leave comments on the gallery.

Page - A link to a cross-platform accessible page which can contain text, images, audio and video.

Reading listLink opens in a new window - This resource allows to link to the module literature in Talis Aspire.

URL - Link to an external website.

Editing and Navigation

The availability of these icons is depending on your user role in Moodle. Not all of these icons might be available to you. If you think you should have access to more editing features, please contact your department's academic technologist or moodle@warwick.ac.uk.

Use the pencil icon to edit for titles and descriptions.

Use the four-headed arrow icon to drag and drop topics, activities, resources, and blocks.

Use the cog icon to open the action menu. Update or edit content and settings of entire Moodle spaces or elements within them.

/ Use the eye visibility icons to show or hide items.

/ Use the arrow icon(s) to move an activity or resource to the right or left i.e. indent or outdent.

Use the copy icon to copy and paste, i.e. duplicate, an activity or resource.
