Upload external media to EchoVideo
Follow the steps below, to upload video content created outside of EchoVideo.
Please note that this is distinct from capturing videos directly in the EchoVideo system using Lecture Capture or Universal Capture.

EchoVideo have recommended that videos created externally to EchoVideo (for example from a Narrated Powerpoint) are checked before uploading e.g. using handbrake.frLink opens in a new window (See also Convert videos to H.264 MP4 with HandBrakeLink opens in a new window on the SiteBuilder support pages) in order to reduce the risk of creating audio issues.
Upload content directly to an EchoVideo Module space
- Log in to EchoVideo via Moodle by clicking on the Lecture Capture block in the Moodle Module space (to add the EchoVideo block, see our Share your EchoVideo recordings guide)
- Click on New Class, located at the top of the page.
- Name your class appropriately and click OK. The class will appear in the list.
- Click on the blue square with a plus on it. Hover your mouse over this and click Add video.
- Drag and drop a file or navigate to the file on your device or from a cloud storage solution. You can also import (make a copy) of items in your library.
- Click Upload once the file(s) has been selected. A bar under the file will show you the upload progress.
- Once the upload has completed a window will display a message that the file is now available in the EchoVideo Section. It will take some time to process the upload before it is available to watch or edit.
Upload content into your EchoVideo Content Library
Your Library is a private area in EchoVideo where you can see all the videos you have access to. It is also where you can upload videos before sharing them with students.
- Log in to EchoVideo either directly if you have created a password for it, or via Moodle by clicking on the Lecture Capture block in any Moodle space where it has been added (to add the EchoVideo block, see our Share your EchoVideo recordings guide)
- Click on the blue Create button, located at the top of the page.
- Select Upload media from the dropdown.
- Drag and drop a file or navigate to the file on your device or from a cloud storage solution.
- Click Upload once the file(s) has been selected. A bar under the file will show you the upload progress.
- Once the upload has completed a window will display a message that the file is now available in your library. It will take some time to process the upload before it is available to watch or edit.
Upload 360-degree video to EchoVideo
360-degree video is a type of video that allows viewers to look around in all directions. This can be done by using a VR headset or by panning and tilting the video on a regular screen. 360-degree video can be used to create immersive experiences that allow viewers to feel like they are actually there.
- Log in to EchoVideo via Moodle by clicking on the Lecture Capture block in the Moodle Module space (to add the EchoVideo block, see our Share your EchoVideo recordings guide)
- Select Library at the top of the page
- Click on the Create drop-down, and select Upload Spherical Video (360°)
- Click the + icon in the centre of the window that opens, browse to the camera or file location and select the file you want to upload and click open at the bottom of the screen. This will return to the previous screen.
- Click on the blue Upload button at the bottom right.
- Your video will be uploaded and will start processing. This may take up to the same length of time as the video.
- Once complete you can click on the video to open it in the player.
Videos can be shared to classes in the same way as any other external content.
Creating a 360-degree video
You can borrow a Ricoh Theta Z1 camera from the IDG Help Desk in the Library. The standard file output from this is compatible with EchoVideo. Use the online formLink opens in a new window or visit the Help Desk to book.
Follow the camera instructions to record your video, connect the camera via the supplied USB lead to your computer, and you can upload directly from the camera to EchoVideo.
You can use other 360-degree cameras so long as they output the file in an equirectangular formatLink opens in a new window as an .mp4 video file.
At Warwick, we have a VR Club that runs every Monday* in the FAB. You can join the VR Club on TeamsLink opens in a new window. This may be an opportunity to share ideas and develop 360-degree content for use in EchoVideo. *Tuesday on bank holiday weeks.
Making uploaded videos available for students
Now that the file is in your library there are a few ways to make a video available to students depending on your requirements and how you use EchoVideo/Moodle.
- Publishing to a module - This will enable it to be accessible via the Lecture Capture block in the module's Moodle space.
- Share a link or embed code - If you are only looking to share a single video you may want to do this via an individual link or embed code from the video in your library. This method can be applied to sharing videos in various locations including Moodle.
Publishing the uploaded video to a module
- Browse or search for the video in your Library and click on the horizontal ellipsis menu
- Click Share.
- Click the Class tab.
- Select from the dropdown menus:
- The Course you want to add the content to. This will likely be named after a University module.
- The Term (Academic year)
- Then the Section, which should have narrowed based on previous selections
- Select New Class.
- Give the Class a name
- Optional: add a description, and limit availability.
- Click Share.
Your recording(s) will be available to students via the Moodle EchoVideo block for the module/course you selected.
Sharing a link or embed code
- Browse or search for the video in your Library and click on the horizontal ellipsis menu
- Click Share.
- Click the Links tab.
- Click Copy to copy the URL, or Embed to copy the embed code.
- Click Done.
- Paste the link or embed code where you wish to share the video.
