Matching question
A Matching question presents two series of statements/words, and the participant must match items from one list to items within the other list. In other words, the Matching question offers the participant a drop-down list of possible responses to a question.
Adding the Question Wording
To create or update the question wording:
- Click Click here to change the question wording.
- Type your question wording, and use the formatting toolbar as needed. For additional guidance, refer to Using the text formatting toolbar.
Creating Question Choices
When creating a Matching question:
- Default Choices: Several default choices will be preloaded as Enter new choice text here. Click on each one to enter your custom wording. You can also style these choices using the formatting toolbar.
- Adding Choices: Click Add a New Choice in the toolbox to add more options.
- Deleting Choices: To remove a choice, click the delete button next to it.
Ordering Choices
Arrange your question choices in a specific order if desired:
- Select a choice and use the drag icon to move it to a new position in the list.
Creating Question Options
Note: Question choices are shuffled for each participant, while question options (drop-down menu items) remain in a fixed order.
- Define Options for Matching: These are the possible answers in the drop-down menu for each choice. To pair options with choices:
- In each choice’s field labeled Enter match text, enter the correct answer option.
- This pairing creates a “matching pair.”
- Adding Additional Options: To add unassociated options in the drop-down menu, select Add Unassociated Match. Enter each option on a new line, then click Save.
Scoring Answers
Choose how the question will be scored:
- All Choices Correct: Set a single score for fully correct answers.
- Score Per Match: Choose Score per match to award points for each correct match. Adjust the score using the provided text fields or the up and down arrows.
Setting Feedback
Provide feedback based on correct or incorrect answers to guide participants:
- General Feedback: Enter feedback for overall correct or incorrect answers. For example, “The correct answer pairs are United States - New York, Germany - Berlin, and Japan - Tokyo.”
- Feedback per Match: To give feedback for each individual match, select Show feedback under each choice, then enter specific feedback.
Adding Question Properties
Question properties allow authors to track and describe the question’s status or function within the workflow. For more information, see Assigning question properties.
Adding a Comment Box
To enable participants to add comments:
- Click Add Comment Box, which will appear at the end of the question.
- Customize the introduction text, which defaults to Add your comment:.
Adding an Additional Outcome
For cases where participants skip a question, you can add a “no answer” outcome:
- Click Additional Outcome to open the outcome screen.
- Enter specific feedback for the “no answer” outcome.
- Click Save.
