Course overview

Ranked 3rd in the UK and 18th in the world by the QS World University Rankings 2024, our MSc Management is an intensive course that brings together the different disciplines within business and management. It will help you accelerate your development to leadership roles in large companies, as an entrepreneur, or in making an impact in mid-size firms and family enterprises.

We immerse you in what it means to lead and manage a business as a whole, helping you to discover how to bring together the teams and skills that are needed to make great decisions and successfully implement them in today’s highly competitive global markets.

Our wide range of elective modules allow you to develop a focus that accelerates your career. For example, you can choose one of our elective specialisms in Consulting or Entrepreneurship, which offer the chance to delve deeper and gain an in-depth knowledge of these areas. We also offer the opportunity for a self-organised internship to be recognised as part of the programme, enabling you to immediately put your learning into practice.

Becoming a leader in today’s dynamic world of business needs more than a firm grasp of theories and concepts. We focus on developing you as an individual, enhancing your soft-skills and the impact you can have early in your career. Our emphasis is on how your personal skills are successfully combined with the integrated view of the management concepts that will support you as your career progresses.

Our five-day international elective modules with our partner schools are now an integrated part of your curriculum, offering you the opportunity to include a first-hand international experience to enrich your MSc Management learning.


General entry requirements

Minimum requirements

At least a 2:1 degree at Undergraduate level or equivalent. We consider applicants from all undergraduate backgrounds for this MSc.

  • Band B
  • IELTS overall score of 7.0, minimum component scores of two at 6.0/6.5 and the rest at 7.0 or above.

International qualifications

Data Driven Decision Making
Build your analytical and critical thinking skills as you learn how and why managers apply behavioural science insights to their strategy, leadership style and day-to-day decision-making.

Dissertation
Synthesise, apply and extend the knowledge you have gained in the taught component of this course in this 6,000 word dissertation.

Performance Management of the Firm
Develop the key skills and knowledge to assess the strategy, management and performance of a firm, and how they meet their stakeholder expectations.

Customer Value Management
Gain a comprehensive understanding of how customer value is created for customers as you consider both applied and practical marketing and operations theory.

Purpose, Impact and Profits
This module will encourage you to consider the very purpose of a company’s existence, and how and why that has changed over time. Discover how companies must find the right balance between profit, and social or environmental impact in order to prosper.

Strategies for the Global Economy
The global economy is a dynamic one, which shows no signs of slowing down. This module explores the different business strategies, mitigations and forecasts that managers must employ in this ever-changing climate.

Leading & Managing Change
Develop an understanding of some of the challenges faced by leaders and managers within an increasingly volatile organisational environment.

Current Issues in Leadership
This module is designed to provide you with the ability to critically assess issues related to leadership and management in organisations, with a particular emphasis on management consulting.

Digital Strategy & Agile Transformation
Using the latest strategy learning techniques used in leading firms and consultancies, this module will help you develop a toolkit for becoming a competent strategist and deal with agile transformations.

Digital Business Services
Focus on how digital technologies enable organisations to offer digital services that aim at improving customer experience as well as firm performance. You'll be prepared to engage with technology-related conversations in the modern workplace.

Entrepreneurial Finance
This module will enable you to understand the fundamental need for finance in entrepreneurial companies, the flow of capital around entrepreneurial young companies and how to execute a practical fundraising strategy for a start-up.

International Business
Build on your knowledge of the global economic and business environment and link this to strategies for managing in changing global contexts.

Entrepreneurial Mindset
This module will provide you with a broad understanding of the theory and practice of entrepreneurship, with a special focus on the entrepreneurial mindset.

Business Analytics for Managers
This module will introduce you to the theory and practice of conducting business analytics projects.

Case Studies in Data Science & Economics
This module will provide you with training in applying data science methods to contemporary economic problems, giving you the opportunity to conduct a data science project using economic data.

Developing Consulting Expertise
This module will teach you about the crucial soft and technical skills needed for successfully gaining roles with the tier-1 consulting firms.

People & Organisations
Through this module you will be introduced to key theories and research concerning the behaviour, leadership, and management of people and organisations.

Introduction to Consulting
This module will introduce you to the world of consulting, focusing on the process and the requirement for management consultants.

Strategic Human Resource Management
The aim of the module is to provide you with a deep understanding of this strategic role of human capital management and the tools with which to analyse and manage it.

Management Internship
This internship module presents the unique placement opportunity to gain hands-on experience at a company of your choosing.

Business, International Finance & Economics
This module will provide real world examples and case studies to illustrate how economic thinking helps businesses make the most of new opportunities, while managing the risks associated with expansion into new markets and regions.

International Management
Gain cultural exposure and expand your knowledge of international business and global management.

Managing Human Resources in Contemporary Organisations
Through this module you’ll be introduced to a range of debates that are central to the human resource management and employment relations field.

Governance and Corporate Responsibility
Understand the wider institutional location of business activity within the polity and the society.

Digital Working & Organisational Transformation
You'll gain a broad understanding of the tools and organisational arrangements driving the shift towards digital working, and learn the techniques and frameworks to operate effectively in this more dynamic and fluid work environment.

Project Management
Look at project management methods in a modern context, spanning a range of sectors and applications.

Behavioural Economics
You'll be introduced to the ways in which economists and psychologists have used behavioural theories and experimental methods to provide extensions to, or alternatives to, the conventional economic wisdom covered in the first term module Fundamentals of Economic Behaviour.

Digital Marketing Technology & Management
Gain an overview of how today's firms use digital marketing practices to achieve their business objectives, giving theoretical and practical subject knowledge and understanding.

Forecasting for Decision Makers
This module will train you in the key methods that aid decision making when managers face an uncertain future.

Corporate Finance
Get an introduction to the principles of Corporate Finance and learn how the basic tools and techniques of modern finance theory can be applied to analyse and improve the investment and financing decisions of the firm.

Teaching

Over three terms you will complete six core modules, alongside four optional modules designed to help you focus on your own areas of interest. One of these optional modules must be selected from our International Management suite, and students will be given a selection of topics and locations from which to choose. Assessment of these modules will vary, and you could be assessed by group presentation, peer assessment, individual assignment, or examination. Your studies will be completed by your dissertation.

You’ll also be offered optional free foreign language study in the evenings across all three terms. This is an opportunity to develop the basics of a new language. There is a choice of six different languages, all at beginner-level (please note we are not able to offer classes at intermediate/advanced level).


Class sizes

The typical class size for this course is around 250 students.


Typical contact hours

Students on this MSc will typically receive between 27 and 30 contact hours per module.


Assessment

Assessment for modules varies to fit the subject being studied. You will have some individual assignments where we present the business challenge we want you to address, and others where we ask you to choose. In addition, group assignments will give you the chance to work together with your fellow students, and some will have an element of peer assessment to help you develop your skills in teams. Some modules conclude with an exam and the course will conclude with the completion of your individual dissertation.


Your timetable

Your personalised timetable will be complete when you are registered for all modules, core and optional, and you have been allocated to your lectures, seminars and other small group classes. Your core modules will be registered for you and you will be able to choose your optional modules when you join us.

There may be events taking place in the evenings. Classes may run up to 7pm and other events, such as careers presentations may take place later or on weekends. Occasionally, classes and exams may be held on weekends. We will notify you in advance if this is the case.

This is a full-time course, so there are no holidays as such. However, the two weeks covering Christmas and New Year are guaranteed to be free from lectures. There may also be weeks free over the Easter period (check with your programme team). Resit exams may take place outside of standard teaching periods.

Students will be required to take an International Management module, and most of these involve international travel. Flights accommodation will be provided for these, but you may incur some extra costs.

Tuition fees

Tuition fees are payable for each year of your course at the start of the academic year, or at the start of your course, if later. Academic fees cover the cost of tuition, examinations and registration and some student amenities.

Fee Status Guidance

We carry out an initial fee status assessment based on the information you provide in your application. Students will be classified as Home or Overseas fee status. Your fee status determines tuition fees, and what financial support and scholarships may be available. If you receive an offer, your fee status will be clearly stated alongside the tuition fee information.

The application process for courses that start in September and October 2024 will open on 2 October 2023.

Applications will close on 2 August 2024 for students who require a visa to study in the UK, to allow time to receive a CAS and complete the visa application process.
