Warwick Taught Masters Scholarships – deadline Friday 31^st May

The University of Warwick will be offering the Warwick Taught Masters Scholarship Scheme to support eligible postgraduate students in 2024/2025. The Scheme has £500,000 to allocate and we expect to make a minimum of 50 awards. Awards are set up to £10,000 per student and available to eligible Home fee status students from under-represented groups who wish to start a postgraduate taught masters course in 2024/2025.

UG Sanctuary Scholarships – deadline Tuesday 30^th April

Warwick’s UG Sanctuary Scholarship applications for 2024 entry are now open. Please note that these scholarships are open to eligible Warwick offer holders/applicants who are seeking asylum, have humanitarian protection or discretionary/limited leave to remain due to an asylum claim and cover a full tuition fee waiver and the equivalent of the full maintenance grant and Warwick Bursary. The AHRC-funded Midlands4Cities Doctoral Training PartnershipLink opens in a new window (M4C) brings together eight leading universities across the Midlands to support the professional and personal development of the next generation of arts and humanities doctoral researchers. M4C is a collaboration between the University of Birmingham, Birmingham City University, University of Warwick, Coventry University, University of Leicester, De Montfort University, Nottingham Trent University and The University of Nottingham.   

For 2024 entry Midlands4Cities Doctoral Training Partnership is offering up to 70 fully funded PhD studentships for eligible students in the arts and humanities through the Open Competition and 13 Collaborative Doctoral Awards (CDA).

The lecture focuses on the monumental fountain incorporated into a garden complex at the Roman villa known today as the Villa San Marco. Drawing on archaeological evidence, textual descriptions by Roman writers, and the use of 3D digital modelling as an interpretive tool, this lecture examines how the art, architecture, garden, and water display in this complex were designed to engage the sensory responses and experiences of villa visitors. The audience will be guided through the Villa San Marco, tracing the possible steps and sensory experiences of an elite Roman visitor to the villa. In doing so, this lecture provides new insights into how the Romans conceived, experienced, and interacted with their multisensory villa environments.

Alison joins fellow TPS PGR student Mark Scott who was appointed as a Fellow of the Institute in February 2022. Within the Institute, he has been part of the Evaluation Learning Circle looking at Evaluation Practice across the university, in addition he supported the Institute with the evaluation of the Resonate Festival in 2022 which coincided with the final part of Coventry’s year as UK City of Culture 2021. In late 2022, he was awarded funding from the Collaboration and Co-Production Fund where he worked with the Belgrade Theatre on developing accessible tools and toolkits relating to evaluation for local artists in Coventry and Warwickshire. Last year, GSD was delighted to establish an exciting collaboration at postgraduate level with the programmes in International Development Studies (MAIDS-GRID) at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, the highest-ranked university in Thailand. This partnership was conceptualised under the Thai-UK World-class University Consortium, funded by the British Council, which aims to bring together Thai and UK institutions for internationalisation and to enhance teaching and research through knowledge exchange and sharing.

MAIDS-GRID at Chulalongkorn and GSD at Warwick both offer international postgraduate programmes in sustainable development and development studies, which share several similarities, including a transdisciplinary teaching and research philosophy, an international student body and comparable programme size.

Encounters and Exchanges in a Global Past

The Oxford Transnational and Global History SeminarLink opens in a new window is inviting submissions for a postgraduate conference, Saturday 25 June, 2022. The conference will be held in person in the Oxford History Faculty.

We welcome submissions on the theme 'Encounters and Exchanges in a Global Past.' We will explore the ways in which encounters and exchanges were experienced in the near and distant past. Despite the recent proliferation of frameworks for understanding contact and the exchange of goods, ideas and biota that accompanied it, contact is rarely considered from a truly global perspective that spans millennia, continents and disciplines.

We welcome interdisciplinary submissions relating to exchanges across time and space. We are particularly interested in submissions on:the infrastructure that underlay encounters and exchanges, such as technology and ideology; multi-scalar interaction; the role of translation in contact; the environmental history of encounters and exchanges.

Sessions will consist of 20 minute papers with time for questions and discussion.
