We are pleased to announce that Dr Ben Kriechel, Managing Partner at Economix Research & Consulting (Munich, Germany), has become our newest Associate Fellow. Dr Kriechel is an expert in labour market research and research methodology. He specialises in personnel and labour economics, education economics using economic theory, empirical methods, and qualitative techniques and has taught courses in personnel and labour economics, research methodology and econometrics. Dr Kriechel has collaborated with colleagues at IER on a number of European focused research projects.

IER researchers at Big Lottery Fund Talent Match Conference and Networking Event
Gaby Atfield and Anne Green attended a Talent Match Conference and Networking Event in Sheffield on 18 September. Gaby and Anne are part of a team of researchers at IER who are working on the National Evaluation of Talent Match, which is being led by researchers at CRESR, Sheffield Hallam University. Talent Match is tackling youth unemployment in 21 areas of England and is targeting young people who are furthest from employment. Presentation at SRHE Postgraduate Issues Network event
Charoula Tzanakou was invited by the Society for Research into Higher Education (SRHE) Postgraduate Issues Network to present findings from her PhD research about 'The personal benefits of the PhD'. This SRHE Network event took place on 24 September and was focused on the 'Dimensions of well-being in postgraduate education'. Roundtable on demographic challenges in the postal sector
Beate Baldauf was invited to take part in the Second Round Table of the project 'Managing demographic challenges and finding sustainable solutions by the Social Partners in the postal sector'. Beate presented key findings from the good practice case studies in a range of economic sectors, which were undertaken as part of the FP7 funded Activating Senior Potential in Ageing Europe. The roundtable event, held on 29-30 September in Stockholm, Sweden, brought together HR managers and Trade union representatives from nine European countries to discuss challenges and potential solutions in the postal sector.
Keynote presentation at National Symposium at the University of Limerick
Professor Jenny Bimrose gave the keynote address at a National Symposium organised by Dr Lucy Hearne at the University of Limerick on Friday, 10th October, 2014, entitled: ‘Challenging Times: Professional resilience for career guidance practitioners working in Ireland's Public Employment Services (PES)'. The official opening of the symposium was given by Kevin Humphreys TD, Minister of State at Department of Social Protection with Special Responsibility for Activation. The event was held in Limerick, Ireland. Dr Deirdre Hughes, IER Associate Fellow, and IER's Professor Alan Brown also attended the event to represent the EmployID project.
