Eli Dutton
Research interestsEli is interested in issues related to the broad area of work and health. She has a particular interest in the relationship between job quality and employee health outcomes, workplace interventions to prevent ill health and the retention of workers with long-term health conditions through reasonable adjustments, redeployment and re-skilling. She is interested in examining these issues within the context of precarious work, employee voice mechanisms, older worker experiences and new digital technologies such as AI and automation. |

Academic profileEli joined IER in November 2025 as a Research Fellow on the NIHR funded project ‘Creating Healthy Jobs’. Prior to this she worked at the Scottish Centre for Employment Research (SCER) at the University of Strathclyde and has also held research posts in the School of Health and Social Care and the Centre for Research in Lifelong Learning (CRLL) at Glasgow Caledonian University. She is a mixed methods researcher experienced in conducting workplace case studies. She also has experience of evidence synthesis, systematic reviews and rapid evidence reviews. Recent work includes reviews on employee voice and productivity (2024) and occupational health and safety in the gig economy (2025). Her doctoral research focused on the retention of workers following long-term sickness absence examining how the different interests in the employment relationship shape management practices and worker experiences. She is a member of the UKRI Early Career Researcher Forum and was previously a member of the Early Career Researcher Development and Recognition Working Group at the University of Strathclyde. |
