Best practice approaches to the development of intermediate skills and the role of apprenticeships

This project will comprise a study of three countries which apply different training systems for the development of intermediate skills (Germany, the Netherlands and Australia). The systems of the countries selected vary in important aspects, such as the relevance of company-based versus school-based training, the relation between initial training and life-long learning, and the role of generic and applied knowledge. The in-depth analysis of the three training systems is expected to deliver best practice solutions for enhancing intermediate skills, which could ideally be transferable to the UK context. The study, led by Economix, will contribute to the UKCES National Skills Research Strategy.
