VET 2050 Vision workshops
Shaping a Vision for England’s VET System by 2050
Throughout early 2026, we are bringing together key stakeholders to co‑develop a shared vision for a high‑quality vocational education and training (VET) system for England by 2050. Our aim is to work collaboratively to define what high‑quality VET looks like from multiple perspectives and to build a collective foundation for long‑term system improvement.
Themes of the Vision Workshops
Across four workshops, we explore high‑quality VET from distinct but complementary perspectives:
Workshop 1: Place‑Based Perspectives
Exploring how local economic conditions, employer demand, transport and access, and community needs shape what high‑quality VET requires in different places.
Workshop 2: Provider Perspectives
Considering curriculum breadth, qualification pathways, accountability, funding stability, learner navigation through the system, and workforce issues within colleges and training providers.
Workshop 3: Employer & Sector‑Body Perspectives
Examining alignment between training and labour market needs, work‑based learning capacity, SME engagement, and how employers navigate the current VET offer.
Workshop 4: Youth Perspectives
Understanding what young people—both in and out of education, employment or training—need from a future VET system. Sessions will include learners aged 18+ and young adults facing barriers to participation.
