Warwick Clinical Trials Unit - Cancer Trials Team
WMS
The Cancer Trials Team at Warwick Clinical Trials Unit are the most dedicated and fun group of people you could meet. They have to liaise with clinical centres who are recruiting patients into our trials and often have to chase up the clinical staff for information about treatments and outcomes for these patients. They have great communication skills, always ready to answer questions and educate centres in the trial processes. In a recent survey the clinical centres praised the trial teams for being quick to answer questions and always being helpful. We have several patients who work closely with us to help the trials be successful. These independent patients call the cancer trials team the 'A-team'. Keep up the good work and thank you team for making our trials successful as well as making Warwick Clinical Trials Unit a great place to work.

Women at WMG - Staff and students
WMG
At WMG we have incredible women, who are innovators, educators, researchers, and leaders across the department. They come from a range of disciplines: engineering, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, sustainability, business management, and outreach and share a common drive to push boundaries and reshape the future of STEM. Many are pioneering researchers, contributing breakthroughs in areas such as brain health, thermo‑fluid mechanics, computational modelling, and recycling technologies. Others are industry leaders advancing cyber resilience, engineering management, and large‑scale digital transformation. These women also champion education and inclusion, dedicating their work to widening participation, supporting apprentices, mentoring future engineers, and sparking curiosity in young people. Their stories reflect resilience, curiosity, and a commitment to social impact whether through sustainability initiatives, community leadership, global scholarship programmes, or advocacy for gender equality in male‑dominated fields. Across staff, students, and alumnae, they embody confidence, courage, and a belief in the power of diverse perspectives. Their voices encourage young women to take up space, challenge stereotypes, and pursue opportunities with conviction. Collectively, they illustrate how women in STEM drive innovation not only through technical excellence but through empathy, leadership, and a determination to build a more inclusive future.

She is such a kind and dedicated teacher. She always prepares things so seriously, just to help us learn more about the culture. A perfect example was on Pancake Day—she went all out and brought in a frying pan and all the ingredients so we could make our own pancakes. It’s the little things like this that show how much she cares. And every time, she takes it so seriously—she always explains the origins and history behind the culture, then designs simple quizzes and prepares little rewards for us. Her dedication truly touches me. 🥹

As Deputy HoD for People and Culture and Senior Tutor, Ann has invested a huge amount of effort into making our department a better place for everybody. She is an active member of our EDI Committee, academic lead for our Athena SWAN self-assessment team, and led the development of new recruitment processes to help build a strong and inclusive culture and attract more diverse applicants to our department. In response to the staff survey, Ann established an online feedback form as a confidential means for colleagues to report any issues or concerns or make suggestions to improve life in the Department. Ann is incredibly compassionate and genuinely cares about the wellbeing of her colleagues and our student community. She always has time to check in on people, and speak up on behalf of those who cannot, despite the personal challenges she herself has faced over recent months. I want to say a huge thank you to the incredible women I share an office with and my fellow Senior Project Managers in CTU. You are inspiring, supportive, and endlessly hardworking, and I couldn’t do this job without you. Each of you balances busy home lives with even busier roles, and you do it with strength and grace. This past year has been personally difficult for me, and you have lifted me up in every way — emotionally, and sometimes even physically. Your encouragement, your listening ears, and the hugs that bookend my days have meant more than I can ever express. You’ve made work a safe, steady place when I needed it most. I feel genuinely proud to work alongside such strong, compassionate women. I learn so much from simply sharing a space with you, and you probably don’t realise the impact and influence you have on my wellbeing and my work. Thank you for everything you do, and for being such a fantastic group to work with. I truly couldn’t do this job without you.

Teresa Forysiak
School of Modern Languages at Warwick
Teresa was head of administration in SMLC while I was head of School and I couldn't have done the job without her! She always offered really useful advice, helped me work through knotty problems and was great at making sense of the finances :) I'm sure that I was too busy spinning plates to thank her often enough for getting us through the pandemic, strategy refresh, the move into the FAB - nothing fazed her - so this digital plaque is simply to say thank you!

I want to recognise Sophie Meeson for the genuinely positive impact she has as a manager. Sophie creates an environment built on trust, warmth, and flexibility, which allows me to do my role at my best. She consistently offers thoughtful encouragement, gives honest answers, and delivers feedback in a way that is both constructive and kind. Despite carrying a role of extraordinary scale for her grade and supporting multiple teams, she remains steady, approachable, and deeply committed to being a great manager. That commitment is reflected in the morale and wellbeing of the staff around her. Her phrase, “I hear you,” is more than words, it’s something she lives by, and I want her to know how much that is valued and appreciated.

Gemma Barber

Gemma is one of those amazing women who manages to juggle 101 things and still maintain high standards and keep smiling. She has two lovely twin girls who keep her on her toes at home, and works a full time job in Student Experience with over 2000 students to build community and support wellbeing. She came into the UG team as the sole person doing that job and has developed a strong team of six who do a magnificent job of providing much needed support to our undergraduates some of whom have complex needs. She has an amazing work ethic, and a great sense of fairness and integrity. On a personal note she's a brilliant friend who always has time for other people and in particular championing female colleagues. I remember Gemma when she started in the University's recruitment team. She impressed me then and she continues to impress me now. She's a friend forever and a wonderful work colleague.

Rachael Kirwan
Innovation Group
It has been a genuine privilege to work with Rachael Kirwan. She is immensely creative, full of ideas and, importantly, the confidence to articulate them clearly and bring others into the conversation. She does not just generate possibilities, she gives them shape and direction. There is a steadiness in the way she thinks things through and then moves them forward. What I value just as much is her generosity. She is deeply supportive and consistently goes out of her way to enable others. If she knows someone who is right for a conversation or an opportunity, she makes that connection without hesitation. She understands that progress depends on relationships, and she tends those relationships with real care. Her knowledge of Warwick is extraordinary. She understands how it works, where the opportunities lie, and how to navigate its complexities. Rachel is someone who makes things happen, often quietly, always thoughtfully, and it has been a real pleasure to work alongside her.

Gemma is an outstanding line manager who combines clarity, warmth, and unwavering support. Despite the breadth and pressure of her role, she always makes time for her team and communicates with calm, thoughtful precision. She creates a positive working atmosphere and will always advocates for those she leads. All of this is even more impressive given that she balances a demanding job with the responsibilities of a young family. Her leadership has had a real and lasting impact on my confidence and development, and I'm so lucky that I've been able to work with over the past so many years (too many to be counted!)

What sets Heidi apart is her belief in “holding the ladder down”. She lives by the principle that when you climb, you reach back and steady the ladder to pull others up too. I feel incredibly fortunate to have Amrit as my line manager. She supports me both professionally and personally, and her encouragement has made such a difference to my career and apprenticeship. She consistently puts me forward for opportunities, involves me in new areas of work, and pushes me to reach my full potential.
Amrit is a natural motivator — she makes you want to achieve as much as you possibly can. A huge part of the success I’ve had in this team is down to her: partly because she gives me exposure to so many valuable experiences, and partly because she inspires you to want to step up and do your best.
Amrit really is exceptional.

Sarah Wall
Events and Strategic Projects
I have worked with Sarah, on and off, since 2016. More recently she has been my Line Manager, and it is in this role that I would especially like to recognise her.
As a manager, Sarah strikes a rare balance between encouragement and empowerment. She not only supports and champions me, but also gives me the space and trust to grow. She consistently makes time to listen, offering guidance and advice in a calm, thoughtful and measured way.
What I value most is the openness of our working relationship. We have honest and transparent conversations. We do not always agree, but differences of opinion are welcomed and explored respectfully, without judgement. That psychological safety is incredibly powerful.
I trust Sarah — her integrity, her fairness, and her genuine commitment to the people she leads. She makes a meaningful difference not only to my professional development, but to my confidence and wellbeing at work.
For all of this, and much more, she is someone I am proud to celebrate.
Cleaning team in Maths
Warwick Mathematics Institute
The cleaning team's contribution to keeping the department running is often overlooked; but quite simply it would not function without them. From cleaning offices and tidying the kitchen to stepping in when there are leaks or other building issues - they support us in many ways so that we can get on with work. The team is mostly women, and we are especially grateful for all they do — and of course our thanks go to the men in the team as well. It's a pleasure to be greeted by them with a friendly 'Good morning' , which makes the start of the day a little bit brighter.
Jill Grant
Wellbeing Support Services
Jill is a wonderful colleague and kind friend. She has been working at Warwick for 40 years! She is always generous with her time and supports all the staff in Wellbeing Services everyday without fail. She has a great sense of humour and laughs at all my awful jokes. The office is never the same when Jill is away on her travels. - I miss her knowledge and experience but most of all the pain au raisin and rhubarb that appears on my desk at regular intervals!

Meena's warmth, energy and beaming smile are her superpowers. Whether it's an early morning coffee or a lunchtime grab and go, her welcoming nature can lift my spirits in an instant. I love how she always notices when I've had time off and she gives the best hugs if it's been too long! Thank for you being so wonderful.

Lisa Drummond
WIHEA
Lisa Drummond is someone who I have had the pleasure of getting to know as a student and now as staff. Lisa is always genuinely interested to not just listen but understand questions, ideas and challenges being experienced by students and staff and how things can be improved to support all. Lisa will always welcome you with a smile, check in and make sure you have what you need and make you feel at ease. There have been plenty of times when I have been nervous about trialling a new initiative or sending out an invite to hundreds of people and Lisa has always given the time to review and the confidence to press send or to run with an idea. It is this trust, encouragement and support that really does make all the difference. Lisa is an incredibly giving and kind person who is brilliant at what she does and will crack on with whatever needs to be done. It is because of Lisa's hard work, kindness and skill is something to be recognised, rewarded and cherished. I feel incredibly lucky to know Lisa, as I know so many others are too.
