Our Schemes to Support Researchers

Our team is committed to improving research culture across Warwick and beyond

At Warwick, we're undertaking a number of schemes to help improve our own research culture and environment, including parental leave benefits, training programmes and career development initiatives.

Warwick Academic Returners Fellowship

This scheme provides the opportunity for academic staff and post-doctoral researchers to continue their research endeavours and plan how their work can be supported during and/or after their period of maternity, paternity or parental leave.

Conference Support Award

Introduced as part of our Athena Swan action plan, the Conference Support Award Scheme provides a contribution of up to £200 to cover care costs that may be incurred for attending an essential conference, workshop or training event.

Accolade Programme

Designed by the Institute of Advanced Study, this training and events programme aims to help early career Fellows establish independent academic careers, with a range of research webinars, training events and panel discussions.

Maternity Leave for PhD students

Research students at the University of Warwick are eligible to take up to 52 weeks of maternity leave.

INspire Programme

A programme delivered through a combination of peer mentoring, coaching and sponsorship, INspire was created in 2021 to support leaders and help them plan their careers. It enables the disabled, women, LGBTQUIA+ and ethnic minority staff striving to be an executive senior leader.

EUTOPIA

The University of Warwick is proud to be part of the EUTOPIA alliance, a group of 10 like-minded universities across Europe working to transform how Europe addresses global challenges through collaborative research, increased mobility of students and staff, and advocating for innovation.

The Warwick PATHWAY Programme

Our newly launched PATHWAY programme aims to tackle the under-representation of black academics in UK Higher Education.

The programme will offer initiatives to address issues along the entire career pathway, from undergraduates to postdocs, to early career researchers and professors.

Internal Research Culture Funding

At Warwick, we aim to create an environment where researchers are happy, creative and productive and where the research practice is open and sound. We recognise that research culture is a community effort, which is why in the last couple of years we have run an internal competition called ‘Enhancing Research Culture’, which has captured collective creativity and brought out grassroot ideas into practice. We’ve funded over 40 projects across our three faculties, and these research culture enhancing activities have been led by a broad range of researchers and research enablers - including early career researchers, professional services staff and research technical professionals.

See examples of our previously funded projects.
