The Centre for the New Midlands hosted its inaugural Winter Reception at the prestigious Churchill Room in the Palace of Westminster last week, gathering MPs, dignitaries, professionals and academics together to celebrate the importance of harnessing education and new technology in the regeneration of the West Midlands. The University of Warwick’s free Creative Futures Incubator based in Leamington Spa’s co-working space 1 Mill Street is already powering up new local businesses, but now is also powering pedestrians up the Parade in Leamington, with 2 e-trikes. These innovative pedicabs provide a creative, environmentally friendly way for residents to get around the town centre and access the shops.

The University of Warwick has appointed Dr Richard Hutchins to the newly created post of Chief Communications Officer with immediate effect. He joins the University Executive Board, reporting directly to the University’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Stuart Croft. He previously served as the University’s Director of Strategy.

The University of Warwick is looking for the next cohort of creative businesses that it can help with its Creative Futures programme and businesses have just over two weeks to apply to be part of the programme and access 5G enabled business incubator space in Leamington Spa’s 1 Mill Street. Applications close on 15th February 2021.

Ten new businesses will be the first to benefit from a new Creative Futures Accelerator Programme in Leamington Spa’s Creative District. that will help those businesses become part of the UK’s largest creative cluster outside Greater London. The scheme is supported by the University of Warwick, 1 Mill Street , BT and Warwickshire County Council.

University of Warwick has been awarded the title of ‘Business Events Venue of the Year’ at inaugural West Midlands Tourism Awards

The conference, meeting and events team at the University of Warwick were awarded the title of ‘Business Events Venue of the Year’ and will now go through to the national VisitEngland Awards for Excellence.

Martin Yardley, who currently combines the roles of Executive Director of Place at Coventry City Council and the CEO of the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership, is to join the University of Warwick in a senior business development role.

Minerva, the business angel network which is part of University of Warwick Science Park, has played a vital role in helping Lincoln-based tech start-up Tended access the funds and know-how needed to take its intelligent safety solutions to the next level. Tended secured a total of £935,000 through Minerva Business Angels, including a single investment of £810,000 from Blackfinch Ventures. They went on to secure a further £221,000 from innovate UK, taking the total raised to £1.15m.  

The Midlands Innovation group of universities has launched the largest collaboration between university technology transfer offices in the UK, to attract investment and management talent to the region.

WMG, at the University of Warwick, has been awarded £10 million to build a new Degree Apprenticeship Centre for the high value manufacturing sector.

The WMG Degree Apprenticeship Centre will focus on courses essential to the effective development of advanced engineering and manufacturing companies.

Users of the sharing economy in the UK have grown by 60 per cent in 18 months, a new survey has found. Warwick Business School academics also found that 23 per cent of the UK population use sharing economy services more than once a month and that the more educated you are the more likely you are to be paying for the likes of Uber and Airbnb.

A new report published today Monday 25^th June 2108 shows that UK companies are well-placed to supply valuable materials needed for batteries to be built in UK – a potential £2.7 billion per year business opportunity. The report commissioned by WMG at the University of Warwick, was launched to the Chemical Industry Association at the Chemistry Growth Partnership meeting in London, chaired by Steve Foots, Chief Executive of Croda, and attended by Richard Harrington MP.

Purity Brewing Ltd is a small brewer based on a farm between Studley and Great Alne not far from Stratford upon Avon.  Sales continue to boom, which means constantly balancing the production of their beers with growing customer demand. The company turned to the SME team in WMG at the University of Warwick to help develop data systems to manage this complex operation while they get on with brewing the beer.
