Multiple Response question (right/wrong)

A Multiple Response question is similar to a Multiple Choice question, except that instead of being required to make one (and only one) choice, the user is allowed to make none, one, or more than one choice. It gives you more flexibility to design the marking schema around your learning outcomes.

To create or edit the wording for your question, click where it says Click here to change the question wording and enter the question wording. You can use the text formatting toolbar to present the question wording in any way you wish. Refer to Using the text formatting toolbar for more information on how to do this.

    Ordering choices

Once you have created your question choices, you can specify if you want them to be presented in a particular order, or randomly shuffled. To arrange your choices in a particular order, select a choice and drag it to the desired location.

To shuffle choices, select your choice shuffling option from the Shuffling option drop-down menu. The following options can be selected:

    • No shuffling means that choices will be presented in the order in which they appear.
    • All means all choices will be shuffled.
    • All but last choice means that all choices will be shuffled, apart from the last choice which will always be presented last.
    • All but last two choices means that all choices will be shuffled apart from the last two choices, which will always be presented last.

Note that if you arrange your choices in a particular order but do not select No shuffling from the drop-down list in the toolbar, your choices will not be presented in the required order.

You can also specify whether the question choices are listed vertically or horizontally. To do so, select either Vertical or Horizontal from the Display drop-down menu.

Specifying the maximum number of responses

You can specify the maximum number of responses that participants can select when answering a Multiple Response question. This can be any number from 0 to the total number of choices available.

To specify the maximum number of responses, enter the required number in the Max number of responses field.

    Scoring choices

Two types of scoring are available for Multiple Response questions: score per choice and right/wrong.

    Score per choice

In score per choice scoring, a score is given for each choice selected. To use score per choice scoring, select the Score per choice option.

    To present feedback to choices:

    • Click the Show feedback button.
    • Under each choice, click where it says Enter optional feedback here and enter the desired feedback.

    Adding a comment box

Adding a comment box to a question enables participants to provide a response to the question. This is particularly useful when creating surveys.

To add a comment box to a question, simply click Add comment box. The comment box will be added to the bottom of the question.

Once a comment box has been added, you can edit the text used to introduce the comment box. By default, this is Add your comment.
