- Scored provides the ability to add specific scoring and feedback values to the question choices.
- Unscored provides a simple question layout for survey-based assessments with the ability to add feedback but not set scores.
Adding a background image
When you create a Drag and Drop question, there is a placeholder background image in place. Hot areas for participants to click on will be defined on the image that is selected as the background image for the question. To change the placeholder image to your own image:
- Click the Change background image button on the left side of the screen. The "Select image" window will open.
- Click Browse.
- Navigate to the location of the image you want to upload and select the image.
- You can upload JPG, JPEG, GIF, and PNG images up to 20 MB in size.
- Click Open. The image will be uploaded.
- Click OK (you can click Cancel to abort the upload).
Once you have added a background image, it will appear beneath the question wording.
Selecting marker images
The marker images are what a participant uses to mark their answers in a Drag and Drop question. You can have up to 10 markers. When you create a Drag and Drop question, there are automatically already two markers in the question for you to use.
To add a marker, click Add marker in the toolbox. Another marker will appear below the existing markers in the question.
To delete a marker, click the X button to the right of the Set region button for a marker.
You have to have at least one marker at all times.
To select a marker image:
- Click on one of marker thumbnails on the left side of the screen. The "Select a marker" window will open.
- Select one of the available markers or click Browse to upload your own image to use as the marker.
- If you are uploading your own image, navigate to the location of the image you want to upload and select the image and click Open.
- You can upload JPG, JPEG, GIF, and PNG images up to 20 MB in size.
- Click OK (you can click Cancel to cancel the marker image change).
Once you have selected or uploaded your marker images, they will appear below the background image and as the marker image buttons. The images that you upload as your markers will be displayed at full resolution, so keep this in mind when selecting images to use as markers. Recommended dimensions for markers are:
- 24x24 (pixels)
- 36x36
- 48x48
Specifying target regions
"Target regions" are the regions on the background image that will be marked as correct if selected by a participant. You can have up to 10 target regions.
Once you have added your own background image and selected the marker images you want to use, to specify a target region:
- Click the Set region button to the right of the marker whose region you want to specify.
- Choose one of the three available shapes for the marker: Rectangle, Circle, or Polygon.
- If you choose a rectangle or circle marker, you can click and drag to resize of rectangle/circle as you want and move it to the desired location on the background image.
- If you choose a polygon, you can click on different points on the background image to create the corners of the shape you desire as well as drag it to the desired location on the background image.
- You can right-click on a point on a polygonal region to delete it.
- Click OK (you can click Cancel to cancel specifying the target region).
After you have specified the number of target regions you desire, they will then appear on the background image on the question editor page.
If you are using a non-HTML5 browser (e.g., Internet Explorer 7 or 8), you will only be able to create rectangular target regions. If you create a circular or polygonal region in an HTML5-compatible browser (e.g., Internet Explorer 9 or higher), but then later edit that question in a non-HTML5 browser, the target region will appear as a rectangle and you will be unable to edit it in that browser.
Scoring answers
To set a score for correctly identifying all of the hot areas, enter the desired score in the Score textbox for All correct feedback.
To set a score for not correctly identifying all of the hot areas, enter the desired score in the Score textbox for Incorrect feedback.
Checking the Score per marker option in the toolbox will allow you to set a score for each hot area correctly identified. If the "Score per marker" option is not selected, a score is only awarded for marking all of the hot areas correctly or incorrectly.
Showing feedback
You can choose to present feedback to participants based on the answers they mark, although you do not have to do so. For example, you may wish to provide more details to the participant on why a particular set of answers is correct or incorrect, such as, "Sorry, those are not the provinces of Alberta and Ontario."
To specify feedback for correctly or incorrectly marking all of the hot areas, enter the text you desire in the appropriate Enter new feedback here textboxes.
If you are using the Score per marker option, you can leave feedback for each answer given in addition to feedback for marking all the hot areas correctly or incorrectly.
Adding a comment box

To add a comment box to a question, simply click Add comment box. The comment box will be added to the bottom of the question.
You can enter new prompt text for the comment box in the Add your comment field.
