Add videos and external media

Add videos as external media links. Videos are often very large files and Mahara quotas are limited to 1gb. Warwick uses eStream for video storage and streaming but this process works for many video streaming sites.

Add a video using external media

  1. Turn on editing on a page using the pencil  edit icon at the top right.
  2. Expand the External section of the block menu (not the Media section which refers to media uploaded to the files section).
  3. Drag and drop External Media onto one of the grey content containers.
  4. A window will 'fly-in' from the right where you can, optionally, change the block title.
  5. Paste in the embed code for your video or the URL. You can see a long list of icons indicating which streaming services you can use.
  6. Optionally set the height and width of the video.
  7. Add Tags.
  8. Click Save and the video will appear on the page.

Add a video file

We do not recommend this due to the potential file size but it is possible to add small videos directly.

Videos should have MP4 format (with h264 video and acc audio) to ensure they play when embedded. Other formats may not be supported by web browsers and will appear as a file download link instead.
  1. Upload the video following the instructions for uploading a file.
  2. Turn on editing on a page using the pencil  edit icon at the top right.
  3. Expand the Media section of the block menu.
  4. Drag and drop Embedded Media onto one of the grey content containers.
  5. A window will 'fly-in' from the right where you can, optionally, change the block title.
  6. Select the video from the available files (or upload the video if you skipped step 1).
  7. Add Tags.
  8. Click Save and the video will appear on the page.
