Indiana Women's Prison was established in Indianapolis in 1873, and was the first separate correctional institution for adult women in the USA.

The eight photographs reproduced here show a general view of the building, an inmate's room, the 'serving room', the prison kitchen and laundry, and a 'receiving bath room', dining room and surgery in the Correctional Department.
