'The Municipal Officer', 1911-1920

Preceded by a number of local guilds, the National Association of Local Government Officers (NALGO) was founded in July 1905. It was renamed the National and Local Government Officers' Association in 1952. In 1993 the association amalgamated with the National Union of Public Employees (NUPE) and the Confederation of Health Service Employees (COHSE) to form UNISON.

The Modern Records Centre has a series of journals with different titles which were published by NALGO between 1906-1993. Editions of the journal 'The Municipal Officer' between October 1911 - February 1920 have been digitised and are available through our online catalogue. Subjects include: branch and district news, social activities (including rifle club), benefits (including the Benevolent and Orphans' Fund and superannuation) and the union during the First World War.
