'The York Labour News' and 'The York Daily Labour News', 1904-1905

'The York Labour News' was a monthly newspaper published by York Labour Representation Committee between 1904-1905. 'The York Daily Labour News' replaced it at the beginning of 1906, in the immediate run up to the general election.

The newspapers promote G H Stuart (of the Postmen's Federation) as the Labour parliamentary candidate for York and include articles on local and national politics, housing, welfare, international affairs (including the Russo-Japanese war, Chinese labour in South Africa and revolution in Russia), trade unionism, unemployment, education, transport and municipal management of services (as opposed to private enterprise). 'A woman's column' on political and social issues (as well as promoting women's suffrage) is included from January 1905.

The Modern Records Centre has 20 out of 23 editions of 'The York Labour News' and one edition of 'The York Daily News'. They have been digitised and are available through the MRC catalogue:
