Emotional Resilience – Presentation to the Universities Council for the Education of Teachers (UCET)

Two members of the CLL team have been invited by Universities' Council for the Education of Teachers (UCET) to share with other ITE colleagues, their work on developing resilience in trainee teachers using emotional resilience and techniques found in the study of mindfulness. The presentation will take place in London on Friday 8 February 2019, with Ellen Buttler, Director of Initial Teacher Training and Essential Skills Programmes and Dean Howes, Teaching Fellow at the Centre sharing how students can better understand how to develop their ability to cope during emotionally challenging and stressful times.


New qualifications in English and Maths Functional Skills are launched in England in 2019, and now is the time to prepare to teach them.

To help with this the Education and Training Foundation funded the writing and piloting of two Level 5 CPD modules which was done by maths and English experts from the West Midlands Centre for Excellence in Teacher Training (WMCETT), which is based in the Centre for Lifelong Learning at the University of Warwick.

Why CPD is important

Time. It’s something none of us have enough of, and tutors in FE colleges, adult and community learning and work-based training are finding themselves particularly hard pressed for it these days. But some time spent away from the learners can pay dividends later.

PGDE bursaries have now been confirmed for future English and Maths FE Teachers

The Department for Education have this month announced the bursary rates for 18/19, for training FE teachers, with an updated bursary for English subject teachers. The financial incentive behind the bursary launch is to attract new high-quality graduates to become teachers in the FE sector.


CLL Student to teach in Tanzania with Warwick in Africa.

Congratulations to CLL student, Julie Turley. She has been selected to spend this summer teaching in Tanzania with Warwick in Africa. Julie is currently completing our Postgraduate Diploma in Education (FE and Skills).

We asked Julie what inspired her to apply for Warwick in Africa, and how she feels the PGDE course has helped to prepare her for this challenge...
