IMC Problem Solving Seminar
This year's International Mathematics Competition will take place an in-person event 28 July - 3 August 2025 in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria.
Warwick's team for the competition will be selected on the basis of three 2-hour written tests. If you would like to be considered for the team, please come to all three tests. Students completing their first, second, third or fourth year of university education (including courses such as MMath and MASt) and being at most 23 years old at the time of the competition are eligible for inclusion into the team. The Mathematics Department will cover travel and registration expenses of the selected team.
Also, we will run some training sessions, which everyone (even those who do not intend to take part in the selection tests) are welcome to attend. No prior registration is required; just turn up for any session.
The training sessions will take place 1-2pm on the following days (in B1.01 unless stated otherwise):
- 15 January: Oleg Pikhurko "Combinatorics" (Practice problems and their solutions)
- 22 January: Ittihad Hasib "Group theory"
- 29 January (in MS.03): Jun Yan "Linearity of expectation"
- 5 February (in MS.03): Jan Kus "Linear Algebra"
- 19 February: Jun Yan "Derivatives"
The selection tests will take place 2-4pm on 12 February, 26 February in Room L3 in the Science Concourse and 2-4pm on 12 March in Room A0.26 (Millburn).
Further information will be added here in due time. As extra preparation, we recommend solving past problems (available online with solutions) from the following competitions:
- International Mathematical Competition (IMC)
- International Student Team Competition in Mathematics
- Putnam Competition
- SEEMOUS
- Vojtech Jarnik Mathematical Competition
Also, AoPS has a collection of links to various undergraduate maths contests.
We hope to see many of you at the sessions!
With best wishes,
Ittihad Hasib
