An inclusive approach to measuring green jobs in Scotland
A new report from IER identifies a greening of the labour market in Scotland. Working with colleagues from Strathclyde University, IER has developed a new green Standard Occupational Classification ('GreenSOC') to help define, identify and measure green jobs in Scotland.
The measure includes those jobs perceived as new 'green jobs' and the 'greening' of existing jobs. This latter development is particularly important in the transition to net zero, and the evidence shows that around 25% of jobs in Scotland are greening. Another 10% of jobs are experiencing increased demand because of the transition.
In addition to the report, written by Dr Jeisson Cardenas Rubio, Professor Chris Warhurst and Dr Pauline Anderson, an executive summary is also available at the Skills Development Scotland website. The report has featured in The National and the Green Edge Podcast (with coverage starting at 7 minutes).
