Negotiating about Algorithms: Social Partner Responses to AI in Denmark and Sweden

A new paper co-authored by IER’s Trine P. Larsen, Anna Ilsøe (University of Copenhagen), Chris Mathieu (University of Lund) and Bertil Rolandsson (University of Gothenburg) explores social partner responses to increased usage of AI-based technologies in Denmark and Sweden.

The authors find that that trade unions and employers are highly critical towards regulating AI-based technologies through statutory law and prefer in many instances to find joint solutions through tripartite negotiations and collective bargaining.

The paper also offers examples of joint social partner initiatives and how they have responded to the different challenges and opportunities associated with introducing such new technologies.
