Dr Danya Nusseir
Academic profile
Danya Nusseir was awarded her PhD in early 2025 from IER, which explored the role of digital literacy in integrating marginalised communities. In her research, Danya focused on Arab refugee women's access to labour markets in Jordan, Lebanon and the UK. Her research was qualitative and involved interviews and document or policy reviews. Danya is based in the UK and is on the Board of Trustees for a UK Charity. Following the completion of her PhD, Danya was awarded an ESRC IAA Postdoctoral Impact Fellowship. As part of the fellowship, Danya, who is mentored by IER’s Gaby Atfield, will develop a policy and practice document and a digital skills training toolkit for refugee women to aid their employment integration, with a focus on the UK and Jordan.
In addition to her PhD in Employment Research from the University of Warwick, Danya holds an MSc. (2020) in Social Policy and Social Research from University College London (UCL), an MBA (2014) from the University of Kingston and a BSc (2006) in Computer Science and Business Administration from the University of Kent.
She has over fifteen years of experience conducting research for businesses, academic institutions, international development organisations, governments and NGOs. Her research spans different sectors including Information Communication Technology (ICT), media, peacebuilding, marginalised communities, digital literacy and skills, education and integration. Prior to starting her PhD, Danya held senior management and executive leadership roles in organisations, leading diverse teams of up to 30 team members.
