Gianni Anelli-Lopez

Academic profile

Gianni Anelli holds a BSc (2013) in Social Sciences and a Master's degree in Sociology (2016) from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. During his studies, he focused on public policy issues related to higher education and the transition to the labour market.

He has worked on applied research and policy evaluation projects in Chile, including roles at the Ministry of Education and the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. These projects included analysing skill mismatches, labour market trends, and evaluating vocational education programmes. He has also contributed to international academic work, tutoring online courses at the University of Oxford on "Public Policies Economics" and "Inequalities in the Labour Market," reflecting his interest in labour market issues and public policies.

Current projects

  • Developing a Skills Taxonomy: With Peter Elias, Andy Dickerson, Neil Bachelor, Luke Bosworth, Rosie Day, Stef Poole, and Lynne Marston; funded by the Department for Education; Project duration: March 2024 – March 2026.
  • HE Bridges 5.0 – Bridging risks to an inclusive digital and green future by enhancing workforce skills for Industry 5.0: With Chris Warhurst and Peter Dickinson; funded by the European Commission; Project duration: June 2022 – May 2026.

Research interests

Gianni’s research focuses on:

  • Skill mismatches and shortages and their implications for public policies.
  • The impact of new technologies and automation on the labour market.
  • Empirical studies on vocational education and workforce transitions.
  • Labour market trends in strategic economic sectors and their policy responses.
  • The development of labour market information systems to enhance career guidance and planning.
