Lorraine Johnson

Lorraine Johnson graduated with her PhD in Employment Research in July 2020. Her thesis, The Influence of Intermediary Systems on Public Sector Transitions During a Period of Austerity can be viewed on the Warwick Research Archive Portal.

Lorraine started her PhD at the IER in October 2014, researching the question: How do a group of UK older women perceive the influences of intermediaries on their work transition(s) during austerity?. She was supervised by Dr Sally-Anne Barnes and Professor Chris Warhurst. Lorraine was awarded the Lindley Scholarship for the duration of her studies. Lorraine is now an Early Careers Fellow at University of Warwick, Institute of Advanced Studies.

Warwick and Coventry University

Coventry: Sessional lecturing (44 hours face to face contact to seventy students) delivering career development modules to undergraduate/masters students.

Energy and Utility Sector Skills Council

Project manager for a UKCES Government funded project delivered through Energy and Utility Sector Skills, to raise the profile of career opportunities across the UK. Delivered educator CPD modules, online labour market information (shared with National Careers Service), and raised the profile of the with 20,000 young people, 200 schools and colleges and 400 educators UK wide - all targets delivered on time.

Achieved full cost recovery for NVQ 4 in Advice and Guidance over 2 years by improving delivery through Moodle and supporting adoption of online portfolio building. At the same time achieved Diploma in the Life Long Learning Sector, QTLS status, A1 Assessors qualification and Masters in Inclusive Education (final project focusing on adult engagement in online discussion forums).

During my career at Birmingham Connexions fulfilled a number of roles from outreach youth worker, project coordinator, senior careers adviser through to staff trainer and assessor.
