Barriers to good work

IER has been contracted by Acas to undertake research into the barriers to adopting good work practices among UK firms.

A growing evidence base demonstrates the link between good work practices and improved business performance, particularly through improved productivity. Despite this evidence, good work practices are not ubiquitous in the UK.

This research project aims to identify the barriers and challenges to implementing good work within UK businesses and understand how these barriers work in firms from various sectors and of various sizes.

The research project has two components. The first is an evidence review of the barriers to good work. The second is to conduct focus group interviews with employers to understand their rational to adopt, or not, good work practices.
