Skills for Diversification

Skills for Diversification

The University of Warwick Institute for Employment Research (IER) was commissioned in 2005 to assess the skills required by companies if they were to diversify into medical technologies market.

Based on a survey of workplaces involved in either (a) the production of medical devices (whether or not this was its main activity), or (b) located in industries where workplaces had diversified into the production of medical devices, the study is able to demonstrate the following:

  • The skill sets required by workplaces currently engaged in the production of medical devices to serve the medical market.
  • Identify whether skill shortages are a barrier to organisations that have not diversified into medical technologies but have a potential to do so, given their principal economic activity.
