What degree course did you study and when did you graduate?

MBA (1991).

What is your current role?

Currently, I am the founder of my consultancy company which focuses on mid market companies. We assist companies in raising capital from venture capital/ private equity firms and provide M&A advisory services also. We also engage in strategy assignments particularly in helping a company define its strategy, vision and develop a business plan.

Tell us about your career story since graduating from Warwick

After graduation I joined India’s leading consultancy company A F Ferguson (now part of Deloitte) for about 2 years. After that I joined Kotak Mahindra Investment Bank in the M&A team (India’s leading investment bank) for a period of 5 years. While expecting my second son I took a career break for a period of 1 year. Thereafter, I spent about 7.5 years with Deloitte Corporate Finance. At Deloitte my focus was on M&A, privatisations, and raising capital from VCs and Private equity funds for clients. To gain more flexibility in terms of work hours I decided to set up my own firm focusing on SME clients and actively managing my financial portfolio.

How has your time at Warwick helped you during your career?

I did the MBA program at Warwick. My undergraduate degree was a BSc in Life Science and Biochemistry. The MBA gave me a great foundation for understanding different aspects of business. It also helped me develop skills in financial analysis, modelling, and valuation. The MBA improved my communication and interpersonal skills. I also gained confidence. Some of the Financial skills that I acquired have helped me build my investment portfolio.

What advice do you have for Warwick graduates who would like to work in your sector?

  • To acquire the technical skills required
  • Internships in the desired areas of employment

What 3 top tips would you give to students looking to find a graduate role in the UK or elsewhere in the world?

For India:

  1. Do an internship and gain understanding in areas that one is looking for employment.
  2. In companies you want to gain employment see if you can find someone who can give you a referral.
  3. In India companies recruit at specific times of the year at entry level (different from that of UK); ensure that you understand the Indian timelines and send in resumes accordingly.
