Upload external media to Echo360

Follow the steps below, to upload video content created outside of Echo360. Please note that this is distinct from capturing videos directly in the Echo360 system using Lecture Capture or Universal Capture.

All content added to Echo360, via Lecture Capture, Universal Capture, or direct upload will now have transcriptions automatically generated. For more information please see our Echo360 Automated Transcripts and Closed Captions guidance.

Upload content into your Echo360 Content Library

Your Library is a private area in Echo360 where you can see all the videos you have access to. It is also where you can upload videos before sharing them with students.

  1. Log in to Echo360 either directly if you have created a password for it, or via Moodle by clicking on the Lecture Capture block in any Moodle space where it has been added (to add the Echo360 block, see our Share your Echo360 recordings guide)
  2. Click on the blue Create button, located at the top of the page.
  3. Select Upload media from the dropdown.
  4. Drag and drop a file or navigate to the file on your device or from a cloud storage solution.
  5. Click Upload once the file(s) has been selected. A bar under the file will show you the upload progress.
  6. Once the upload has completed a window will display a message that the file is now available in your library.

Using the Echo360 app

If you want to upload content that is on a mobile device, perhaps because you used it to record video, you can use the Echo360 app to upload it. It is available for the following devices:

Android app

Download the app from the Play Store
iOS app Download the app from the Apple Store
Windows Mobile app Download the app from the Microsoft Store
Amazon Kindle Download the app from the Kindle Store
While the Echo360 app will also allow you to view and download videos for offline viewing, it is not currently recommended for students as they will need to have a separate login to Echo360. Please do not advertise the app to your students.

See Echo360's Quick Guide to the Mobile Apps.

  1. Tap the Echo360 App on your mobile device.
  2. Enter your full University email address i.e. and click Submit.
  3. Select University of Warwick as the institution from the drop-down list.
  4. Enter your password.
    • If this is the first time you have logged in to Echo360 directly, you will need to set your password. Click on the Forgot your password? Click here to reset link. You will receive an email sent to your University email address. Follow the instructions in the email. Do not use the same password as you use to log in to University systems.
  5. Follow the instructions in Echo360's guide to Uploading Videos through the Mobile App.

Making uploaded videos available for students

Now that the file is in your library there are a few ways to make a video available to students depending on your requirements and how you use Echo360/Moodle.

  • Publishing to a module - This will enable it to be accessible via the Lecture Capture block in the module's Moodle space.
  • Share a link or embed code - If you are only looking to share a single video you may want to do this via an individual link or embed code from the video in your library. This method can be applied to sharing videos in various locations including Moodle.

Publishing the uploaded video to a module

  1. Browse or search for the video in your Library and click on the horizontal ellipsis menu
  2. Click Share.
  3. Click the Class tab.
  4. Select from the dropdown menus:
    1. The Course you want to add the content to. This will likely be named after a University module.
    2. The Term (Academic year)
    3. Then the Section, which should have narrowed based on previous selections
  5. Select New Class.
  6. Give the Class a name
    1. Optional: add a description, and limit availability.
  7. Click Share.

Your recording(s) will be available to students via the Moodle Echo360 block for the module/course you selected.

See Echo360's guide to Sharing or Publishing Media to a Course to see this process in more detail.
