Art in the Archives: Art Restored
Before and after
Art in the archives can be found in unexpected places. These photographs illustrating the restoration of Virgin and Child, a gilded and painted wooden statue by Italian sculptor Silvestro dell’Aquila (c1450-c1504), were submitted in the 1960s by the Institution of Professional Civil Servants in support of a pay claim for repairer craftsmen in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
