"The best quality football outfits", 1884
Advertisement for the products of George Lewin, a London-based manufacturer of "athletic clothing", including "the very best quality football outfits". The illustration shows a sizeable scrum of players putting the boot in, whilst kitted out in striped flannel jerseys, knee-length hose and caps. As well as clothing, Lewin also supplied equipment, including goalposts for Association football ("painted and iron shod") and rugby.
