Coal Not Dole: The 1984/5 Miners' Strike 40 years on

The 1984-5 miners' strike lasted almost a year - from 6 March 1984 to 3 March 1985. The bitter industrial dispute was a national battle but left its deepest scars in the local communities which had grown up around the pits and which were socially and economically dependent on the coal industry.

Our new digitised collection Coal Not Dole: The NUM and the 1984-5 miners' strike contains 95 leaflets, bulletins and other items of ephemera produced by the NUM at local and national level, and support groups that were formed at community level.

Leaflet in the style of a satirical £16 note, including a portrait of Margaret Thatcher
