The United Kingdom Society of Amalgamated Smiths and Strikers was formed in 1886 and amalgamated with nine other unions on 1 July 1920 to form the Amalgamated Engineering Union.

Gloucester Branch Proposition Book

The only genealogical source is the proposition book of the Gloucester branch (MSS.259/SS/7/MR/1/1). This lists chronologically all members who joined from the branch's formation in December 1890 until amalgamation in 1920. It lists name, date of joining, marital status, age, address and trade.
