Book Return service

For summer 2020 finalists

The University of Warwick is providing a freepost service to enable the return of books if you have left the University and were unable to return your books due to the COVID-19 Library closure. This option is available to students based in the UK who have finished their course at the University. All items posted back using the Clicksit Collect+ freepost service will be free of charge.

Eligibility

  • This service is for finalists (those who graduated or left the University in summer 2020)
  • Unfortunately, we are unable to offer this service to any current students or staff
  • This service is for UK only returns

If you are interested in the service or want to check your eligibility please contact library at warwick dot ac dot uk.

How to return your books

  • Please carefully package any University of Warwick Library items into one parcel. We are unable to cover the costs of the packaging, just the postage cost
  • Email library at warwick dot ac dot uk for access to the freepost portal
  • Use the portal to generate a one-off label or QR code
  • Drop off the parcel at your nearest Collect+ point. These can be found by checking the store locator
  • When we receive the items we will process these and clear the items from your account, along with any fines accrued since March 2020

Here is some information to help you pack your parcel(s):

  • Weight up to 10kgs per parcel
  • Maximum dimension: 60cm x 50cm x 50cm
  • If you have a lot of books you are welcome to send them in multiple parcels

We appreciate you may not have scales to guide you in packing your books so the following info may help: a pile of 7 paperback and hardback books weighs around 5kg. So depending on size and the packing materials you have available you may be able to fit up to 10 books in a single parcel.

  • If you need to send your books in multiple parcels please enter your email address more than once to the portal to download different labels to attach to each of your parcels.
  • If you have any issues with the service, including the service rejecting the size or weight of the parcel, please contact library at warwick dot ac dot uk

Current loan information

For all students and staff

  • If you have difficulties returning your books due to COVID restrictions or are self isolating please contact library at warwick dot ac dot uk
  • Finalists: All standard loan books on loan to finalists were due back at the end of June, but we understand that due to the current situation with COVID-19 you may not be able to return books to us at the current time. Please do not worry if you are in this situation: you will not be fined and it will not affect your graduation. If you have any queries, please contact library at warwick dot ac dot uk
  • Overdues: Due to the Covid-19 pandemic the Library has introduced a fines amnesty. This is set to continue but may be subject to change. For the most up to date information make sure you are checking the Library website. You will still receive automated courtesy and overdue notices if an item becomes overdue

The table below identifies how many books or other items you can borrow dependent on your borrower type. We offer a standard loan, a 3 day loan service and a short loan service (for books in high demand). Vacation borrowing information will be posted here at relevant times (vacation loans do not apply to staff).

Note: All Standard Loan books may be recalled if requested by another customer. If a 3 day loan book is requested by another customer you will not be able to renew the book. Info

3 day loan books are issued for 7 days to part time students and students registered with the University Disability Services.

Occasionally, loan periods for books from certain collections (e.g. Schools Collection, Staff Development Collection) may vary. Please ask at the Library Helpdesk on Floor 1 for more information.

FAQs

Follow the on screen instructions on the self-issue machines on Floor 1 to borrow or renew books. Items in Short Loan should be issued using the self-issue machines in the Short Loan area. Library members are advised to read the Library rules and regulations and to familiarise themselves with the borrowing, returns and renewal procedures. To avoid any unwelcome surprises please read the information about Library fines.

You may have:

  • reached your loan limit
  • fines of more than £10
  • the book you are trying to borrow may be 'Reference Only'

To ensure you have issued your books correctly please examine your receipt carefully. Your receipt will provide the date each item is due back. Please take care if you borrow a 3 day loan book. You may not be able to renew it if another student has requested a hold on it.

If you experience any problems when issuing a book, please ask for help at the Floor 1 Helpdesk. If you would like a demonstration of how to use the self-issue machines please ask any Library staff for help or watch the 'how to borrow books' video.

  • If you are not a finalist or postgraduate, and will be continuing your studies at Warwick in September, please keep your books until you return. We are not currently issuing any fines
  • Books can be returned by post to the following address: Customer Support, University of Warwick Library, Gibbet Hill Road, Coventry CV4 7AL
  • If you have any further questions about returning books please email us at library@warwick.ac.uk and we will advise

Please note: We will update this page as the situation changes and other options for book return become available.
