Current loan information

For all students and staff

  • Finalists: All standard loan books on loan to finalists will be due back at the end of June, but we understand that due to the current situation with COVID-19 you may not be able to return books to us by this date. Please do not worry if you are in this situation: you will not be fined and it will not affect your graduation. If you have any queries, please contact library at warwick dot ac dot uk
  • All students: All 3 day loan and short loan books have been renewed until the first week of October or the borrower’s expiry date, whichever is sooner
  • Undergraduates All standard loan books on loan to undergraduates who will be continuing with their studies next academic year have been renewed until the first week of October
  • Postgraduates: All standard loan books on loan to postgraduates have been renewed until the first week of October or the borrower’s expiry date, whichever is sooner
  • Staff: Standard loan items on loan to staff have been renewed until July 2021
  • External borrowers and alumni: Standard loan items on loan to external borrowers and alumni members have been renewed until the end of September
  • We are not currently charging fines on any items, and have not done so since March 18th. You will still receive automated courtesy and overdue notices if an item becomes overdue
  • You will not be able to renew items which already have holds on them, but if you are unable to return them before they are due, you will not be fined

The table below identifies how many books or other items you can borrow dependent on your borrower type. We offer a standard loan, a 3 day loan service and a short loan service (for books in high demand). Vacation borrowing information will be posted here at relevant times (vacation loans do not apply to staff).

Info

3 day loan books are issued for 7 days to part time students and students registered with the University Disability Services.

Occasionally, loan periods for books from certain collections (e.g. Schools Collection, Staff Development Collection) may vary. Please ask at the Library Helpdesk on Floor 1 for more information.

FAQs

Follow the on screen instructions on the self-issue machines on Floor 1 to borrow or renew books. Items in Short Loan should be issued using the self-issue machines in the Short Loan area. Library members are advised to read the Library rules and regulations and to familiarise themselves with the borrowing, returns and renewal procedures. To avoid any unwelcome surprises please read the information about Library fines.

You may have:

  • reached your loan limit
  • fines of more than £10
  • the book you are trying to borrow may be 'Reference Only'

To ensure you have issued your books correctly please examine your receipt carefully. Your receipt will provide the date each item is due back. Please take care if you borrow a 3 day loan book. You may not be able to renew it if another student has requested a hold on it.

If you experience any problems when issuing a book, please ask for help at the Floor 1 Helpdesk. If you would like a demonstration of how to use the self-issue machines please ask any Library staff for help or watch the 'how to borrow books' video.

  • If you are not a finalist or postgraduate, and will be continuing your studies at Warwick in September, please keep your books until you return. We are not currently issuing any fines
  • Books can be returned by post to the following address: Customer Support, University of Warwick Library, Gibbet Hill Road, Coventry CV4 7AL
  • If you have any further questions about returning books please email us at library@warwick.ac.uk and we will advise

Please note: We will update this page as the situation changes and other options for book return become available. Please be aware that as Library staff are currently working from home, there is no one in the library to check books in, so returned books will remain on your record until such time as staff are able to access the Library. Please do not worry about this.
