Jeisson Arley Cardenas Rubio
Jeisson Cárdenas-Rubio graduated with his PhD in Employment Research in July 2020. Details of his thesis: A web-based approach to measure skills mismatches and skills profiles for a developing country: the case of Colombia can be viewed on the Warwick Archive Research Portal.
Jeisson started his PhD at the IER in October 2016 investigated to what extent a web-based model of skill mismatches could be developed for countries where the information on the labour market is relatively scarce. Jeisson’s research drew upon innovative methods in web scraping, big data analytics and machine learning to produce labour market information for Columbia that was analysed to provide a picture of the Columbian labour market. He was supervised by Professor Chris Warhust and Professor Derek Bosworth. We are pleased that Jeisson joined the IER team earlier this year.
Academic profile
Jeisson Cárdenas-Rubio is a labour economist who joined IER in January 2020. Prior to his PhD studies, he worked as a senior consultant, including for the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE) and the Ministry of Labour in Colombia, on topics related to skills and occupational change and public policy design. He is currently completing his PhD in Employment Research at the IER. His doctoral research investigated to what extent can a web-based model of skill mismatches be developed for countries where the information regarding the labour market is relatively scarce. Jeisson's current research interests focus on analysing Big Data sources and development of labour market information for career guidance, skill shortages identification and labour market forecasting.
