Which employers are attending?

Go to the event listing on myAdvantage to access the list of employers attending the fair, browse their profiles and view the opportunities they are offering.

Once you click on the listing look out for the list of organisations on the top right hand side of the page. You will be able to view each employer profile to find out more about the employer, browse vacancies they may have listed on MyAdvantage or click on their website to find out about opportunities available.

Make a note of who you are interested in talking to and read up about how to prepare for the fair in advance or look at the some of the useful questions to ask if you need a hand to kickstart conversations on the day.

Bite size sessions

Running throughout the fair, these sessions will give you a great insight into specialist areas and give you an opportunity to ask the experts your burning questions. Bookable in advance via the links, or simply turn up on the day to attend.

Preparing for the fair

A little prep goes a long way when it comes to making the most of a careers fair. Here’s how to walk in ready and walk out inspired:

• Do your homework: Check which employers are attending and shortlist the ones that interest you. Research what they do and what roles they offer.
• Polish your CV: Bring printed copies of your updated CV. Tailor it to the kinds of roles you're aiming for.
• Practice your pitch: Be ready to introduce yourself - who you are, what you’re studying, and what you’re looking for. Keep it short, confident, and clear.
• Dress the part: First impressions count. Aim for smart-casual or professional attire that makes you feel confident. The WorkWear wardrobe will also be available for you to take away items of clothing on the day.
• Prepare questions: Ask about company culture, graduate schemes, or what they look for in candidates. Show genuine interest.
• Bring a notebook: Jot down names, tips, and follow-up actions. It helps you stay organised and shows you’re serious.

Think of the fair as a launchpad—not just for jobs, but for ideas, connections, and clarity. The more prepared you are, the more powerful your experience will be.

Need quick careers advice? Our drop-ins are perfect for short queries, CV and application checks, or a bit of interview support. No need to book — just come along and get support to help you move forward.

If you need your CV, Cover Letter or Application reviewed, please have your documents ready for us, either printed or on a laptop. We are unable to review documents on mobile devices.

Accessibility and support at the fair

We want to make sure that you have every opportunity to attend events run by Student Opportunity. That’s why we have a quiet half-hour, before the advertised start time of the Fair, should students with disabilities, access needs or long-term health conditions wish to visit the fairs before they get very busy. What to ask?

It can be daunting speaking to employers at a Fair but remember plenty of help is on hand. Some example questions for employers include:

• What are the company’s plans for the next 5 years?
• Why did you personally decide to work for this organisation?
• What has been the most interesting project you have worked on?
• What happens in a typical day?
• How would you describe the firm’s culture and environment?
• What are the key issues within the industry?

Still exploring your options? Here's what to do next

Not every careers fair will showcase every industry—and that’s okay. If you didn’t spot your dream sector today, there are still plenty of ways to explore and get support:

• Check with Student Opportunity: Our careers team has dedicated advisors for niche sectors like the arts, charities, start-ups, or academia. They can point you to resources, events, and contacts beyond the fair.
• Attend sector-specific events: Look out for other targeted careers fairs, events and workshops focused on areas like marketing, publishing, writing, broadcast journalism and working in the film, tv and radio. Search myAdvantage for all of the sector events available and bear in mind some may take place in Spring term as well.
• Explore online portals: Many industries recruit through specialist websites or networks. Think creative jobs boards, research councils, or NGO platforms.
• Join student societies: Subject-specific societies often host guest speakers, panels, and networking events tailored to your field.
• Use LinkedIn and alumni networks: Reach out to graduates working in your target field. Ask for advice, insights, or even shadowing opportunities.
• Book a 1:1 appointment: If you're feeling stuck, a careers adviser can help you map out next steps and uncover hidden opportunities.

Just because your sector isn’t in the room today doesn’t mean it’s out of reach. Your career path is unique — and there’s support to help you shape it.

Make the most of attending

The fair might be over, but your career journey is just getting started. Here’s how to follow up and make the most of the connections you’ve made:

• Reflect and review: Take a moment to jot down who you spoke to, what you learned, and which opportunities excited you most.
• Follow up: If you collected business cards or contact details, send a polite thank-you email. Mention something specific from your conversation to help them remember you.
• Connect online: Add recruiters or company reps on LinkedIn with a short message. It’s a great way to stay in their network and keep up with future openings.
• Tailor your applications: Use what you learned to refine your CV and cover letters. Highlight relevant skills and show genuine interest in the roles you discussed.
• Stay organised: Create a simple tracker for applications, deadlines, and follow-ups. It’ll help you stay on top of things and avoid missing key dates.
• Keep the momentum: Don’t wait — start applying, researching, and reaching out. The energy you gained from the fair is your fuel.
