*The 'Broader Educational Context' programme for Saturday July 16th will run in parallel with a range of 'CONSTRUIT 2017 Laboratory' activities to be organised in the laboratories bordering the Computer Science Atrium. These activities will be oriented towards illustrating and exploring the potential of 'making construals' as a way of developing open educational resources in relation to other approaches. They will include workshops for schoolteachers and pupils, demonstrations of things-to-think-with and construals contributed by delegates and members of the CONSTRUIT! project team, discussions of specalist topics led by project team members and opportunities for open-ended informal interactions with the project team. The resources to be used in CONSTRUIT 2017 Laboratory activities will draw on the contributions listed in the table below, on additional resources proposed by delegates before or during the conference and on other resources identified in the Topic Groups construal that is to be further developed as appropriate in the coming weeks. The nature and scheduling of the CONSTRUIT 2017 Laboratory activities will be set out in broad terms in advance of the conference but will always retain some flexibility to take account of the interests of delegates as they emerge.

Further information about the provisional programme

There will be three kinds of contribution:

A: Presentations including invited keynotes and contributed talks of 20 minutes with additional time where appropriate for discussion and demonstration

B: Workshops, where practical activities for smaller subgroups will be organised on a round-robin basis

C: OERs, exhibits, posters, and construals to be displayed, demonstrated and informally discussed in the context of The CONSTRUIT 2017 Laboratory

The audience for the conference will have the CONSTRUIT! project team as its core. This team is a blend of practical educators with experience of working with schools, pedagogists with and without computing expertise with interests in online learning and educational theories, experts in educational technology and specialists in all aspects of 'making construals'. The rest of the target audience will be primarily people engaged in education in a practical way, where the emphasis is on teaching and learning rather than research: they will comprise school teachers and pupils, educational consultants, academic technologists, HE students, some PG students in education as well as the more research focused people with specialisms in learning and technology.

There will be some differentiation in the kind of audience day-by-day. Broadly, Thursday will focus on computational thinking and principles and practices for making things-to-think-with; Friday will be a schools-facing day targeted at school teachers (and potentially pupils) as well as those involved as consultants and enablers for school education, where OERs is a central theme; Saturday will be concerned with the broader educational context, and so be more focused on the bigger picture -- logistic, psychological, political and social aspects of learning. The Saturday sessions will run in parallel with practical laboratory style sessions and discussions devoted to illustrating, comparing and exploring the role of making construals in relation to other ways of making, thinking and learning. Sunday, which will be part of the project team final Transnational Project Meeting, will assess the future prospects for making construals in education.
