This bulletin considers some of the recent changes in the welfare to work policy domain. Examples are drawn from the IER evaluation of the City Strategy initiative. Other important developments are also discussed with relevance to future implications for the planning, orchestration and delivery of welfare to work services, including the flagship programme of the Coalition Government, the Work Programme and the benefit reform known as Universal Credit. In the seventh of a series of podcasts about our work at the Institute for Employment Research, Pamela Suzanne talks about her doctoral research, which is looking at the work-role transition experience of business professionals. In her research, she focuses on how Argentinean MBA graduates, who are making a career transition and are starting a new role, acquire the required skills, develop new social relations and construct their dynamic professional identities.

Bernard Casey will be making a presentation at the forthcoming 2nd International Conference on Evidence-based Policy in Long-Term Care. The conference will be held at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), London, UK from 5th to 8th September 2012. Bernard's paper will be on "The development of employment and skills in the social care sector: a comparison of Germany and Japan".
